Job Title: Fitter Job Description

A Fitter specializes in fitting tubular structures and reading blueprints. We are seeking skilled fitters to fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, focused, and adept at interpreting blueprints, with the ability to safely use hand and power tools while demonstrating excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Fit, join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials by applying appropriate techniques according to product specifications and production schedules.

• Lay out and assemble subunits or units of materials for welding into position by welders.

• Ensure the product is fitted to the specifications of each job and meets quality standards for UT passable welds.

• Specialize in fitting transmission power poles, Substation A-Frames, High mast poles, Highway sign poles, and other tubular structures.

• Read and comprehend complex blueprints, drawings, and chalk lines.

• Adjust fitting based on the twist and camber of the pole.

• Work on A1 Frames and 12-sided poles.

• Fit up poles with high mast fixtures mounted on the poles.

Essential Skills

• 1 to 2 years of fitter experience required.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding diagrams.

• Experience with overhead cranes and hand tools.

• Familiarity with fitting, tape measure, mechanical assembly, and high mast structures.

• Knowledge of camber and twist adjustments in fittings.

• Proficiency in using welding equipment such as torches, torch tips, and Air Arc.

• Understanding of welding symbols and shop drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Flux Core welding experience is advantageous.

• Good understanding of geometry, including angles, degrees, and pivot points.

• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and additional hours as needed.

Work Environment

Work in a heavy industrial steel manufacturing facility that is non-climate controlled, experiencing cold or hot conditions depending on the season. The facility operates with a focus on safety and efficiency, with opportunities to work every other weekend and typically 60 hours a week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $56160.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
