Medical Temporaries, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced ***Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - Medical Services***. 

• Minimum of 5 years of experience required. 

This is a Long Term Temporary position requiring availability between the hours of 8:30AM-5PM, Monday through Friday, located in Norfolk, VA (23513). 8/1/2026-7/1/2027

Responsibilities :

A Day in the life of a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner:

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, The Psychiatric Nurse Practitoner engages in a full range of primary care assessments, disgnosis, and treatment utilizing a culturally-competent, evidence-based approach to care. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and provide ongoing outpatient assessment, psychopharmacological treatment, and psychotherapeutic interventions to adults with chronic and severe mental illness, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders, intellectual disabilities, and chronic medical illnesses. Services may be provided to children and adolescents in accordance with level training and needs of the department.

Requirements for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner :

• Required : 5+ years of experience working with the mental health population
• Required : Graduate degree in nursing and completion of a Virginia Board of Nursing - approved educational program designed to prepare Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. 
• Required : Must be certified or certifiable in BLS
• Required : Specialized clinical training and experience in evaluating, diagnosing, and providing psychiatric treatment to patients with chronic and sever mental illness. 
• Required : Ability to pass Background Check and Drug Screen
• Required : Must be reliable and a quick learner and have ability to multi-task with accuracy in a very busy environment
• Required : Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Required : Unrestricted and active licenses as an Advanced Practice Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of VA. 
• Required : Certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
• Required : Ability to obtain and maintain Prescriptive Authority to prescribe medications to include scheduled II-V controlled substances. 
• Required : Obtain and maintain DEA certificate to prescribe controlled substances
• Required : Possession of a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record as reported by the DMV
