Speech Language Pathologist

To provide speech and language therapy to students with individualized education plans.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current licensure for Communication Disorders or Speech Language & Hearing Clinician.
• Hold or be eligible for their CCCs.

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Provide individual and group therapy for students with speech or language impairments.
• Assess students using a variety of research or evidence based measures for speech or language impairments (pre-k to HS).
• Serve as TOR (Teacher or Record) or TOS for students with speech or language impairments.
• Complete all paperwork (IEP, progress reports, behavior intervention plans and evaluations) per Article 7 & Department of Special Services guidelines.
• Examine and evaluate data to determine appropriate interventions and share with classroom teachers.
• Prepare and implement RlI activities for students suspected of having Speech or Language impairments.
• Ability to deal with individuals with a variety of ability levels and behaviors in a tactful, congenial, personal manner.

Secondary Functions of the Position:

• Keep records of services implemented.
• Bill for Medicaid services.
• Understand cochlear implants.
• Conduct hearing tests for students.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Special Services and/or the Superintendent.

Knowledge of:

• Policies, procedures and functions of a Speech Therapist or Clinician.
• IN Article 7, IDEA, FERPA and other state and federal education laws.
• Applicable software and applications (ISTAR, Indiana IEP).
• Principles, practices and methods of working with students with language impairments.
• Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.

Ability to:

• Evaluate students and interpret results of various measures in a manner that parents can understand.
• Take responsibility and perform responsible and difficult work utilizing independent judgment and initiative.
• Plan, organize and schedule priorities.
• Apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
• Utilize applicable software applications including the Indiana IEP.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
• Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, students, parents, teachers, support staff and associates.
• Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.

Equipment Used:

• General educational materials.
• General office equipment (computer, copier).

Place Where Work is Performed:

• Various school buildings.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch.
• Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
• Must be able to lift items up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to use a computer (close vision, manual dexterity).
