General Description The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards, and aims to provide a safe, supportive working environment for employees. We are seeking Correctional Officers for the Wyoming Women’s Center in Lusk, Wyoming. The Wyoming Women’s Center was established in 1981 and serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates. The position is essential for maintaining the institution’s safety and security and is a Law Enforcement position, receiving the 20‑year retirement and state benefits package. Respond to post orders of varied assigned posts. Model appropriate pre‑social behavior. Supervise inmates in the performance of various jobs. Assist in searches, including checking for contraband items. Observe daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and perimeter fence line, reporting security violations. Conduct daily scheduled counts of inmates. Assume duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements. Become familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions. Assist in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required. Assist in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter‑ and intra‑state predetermined destinations. Assist in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates. Attend required training to perform duties at an acceptable level. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: 0–1 year of progressive work experience in a correctional setting. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None. Must complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment. Must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver's license, and not have a felony or domestic violence conviction. Physical Working Conditions Must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre‑employment testing prior to appointment. Must have the ability to work overtime as required, and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends. Notes FLSA: Non‑Exempt. All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment. The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a Drug‑Free Workplace. Per WDOC policy, all staff are subject to drug testing while employed by WDOC. Successful applicants for employment must pass a background/reference check, medical evaluation, and urinalysis drug test before appointment.
