Navajo Preference Employment Act In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an affirmative action plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. Overview The Security Officer provides vigilant security services and excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff across Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC), including satellite clinics and the Kaibeto Creek Independent Living Center. Responsibilities include responding promptly to alarms, emergencies, and life‑threatening incidents with a focus on maintaining safety and security. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including overtime, weekends, evenings, and on‑call for emergency callbacks. Qualifications Necessary Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: Must have six (6) months of experience providing security services to a large organization, school, or health care facility. Acceptable experience includes armed services guard duties performed regularly or intermittently. Certification: Must maintain and have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions. Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA). If none, obtain within ninety (90) days of hire. Must have and maintain current Defensive Tactics certification; if none, obtain within ninety (90) days of hire. Must have and maintain current Handle with Care certification; if none, obtain within ninety (90) days of hire. Must complete the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification for Security Officer within six (6) months of hire. Other Skills and Abilities: Record of satisfactory performance in all prior employment, evidenced by positive references. Ability to remain calm under pressure. Good judgment. Empathy‑led mindset. Good physical fitness and strength; ability to lift and drag 50 pounds. Strong customer service and communication skills. Knowledge of healthcare environment and potential threats. Ability to build strong working relationships with hospital staff. Proficiency with computers, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. High ethical standards; no history of complaints, felony, or misdemeanor convictions related to fraud, dishonesty, or conflicts of interest. Criminal background checks are mandatory. Successful completion of job interviews, background and reference checks, fingerprint clearance, and physical examinations. Submission of all required employment documents without false or misleading information. Physical & Mental Effort Physical demands include frequent and prolonged walking; standing; reaching with hands and arms; use of hands to handle or feel; pushing/pulling 10‑100 lbs; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; bending, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs with occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. Requires responsiveness to emergencies at night. Must have adequate vision and hearing for alarms and communications, and the ability to use a two‑way radio. Must participate in the physical fitness evaluation completed by the Security Department: 5‑mile timed event. 1‑minute sit‑ups. 1‑minute push‑ups. Sit and reach. Mental demands: Independent judgment, fairness, high stress tolerance, decision making under pressure, anger management, concentration, ability to work alone, and adaptability to shift work. Environment: The position may require work in extreme cold or heat, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions, chemical hazards, electrical shock, radiation, and vibration. Noise level moderate; occasional exposure to heights. Essential Functions Attend and complete all TCRHCC mandatory training. Obtain certifications for Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing Tactics, Defense Baton, Pepper Spray Defense, and De‑Escalation within ninety (90) days of hire and maintain certification every two years. Participate in all quarterly and annual training courses, including the Physical Assessment Battery, Active Shooter Response, Emergency Management, Use of Force protocols, and other assigned training. Provide a secure environment by performing duties at fixed posts or while making rounds. Check for unauthorized persons, security violations, and fire or safety hazards. Assist patients and visitors with directions and general hospital information. Report all problems and emergencies to the supervisor and document incidents with a written report and daily log. Reports must be clear, accurate, and submitted before shift end. Control evidence, valuables, and lost/found items as necessary. Secure lost and found articles, contact owners if known, log entries, and dispose of unclaimed items per policy. Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as needed. Handle disruptive individuals with verbal intervention techniques; physical intervention may be required for combative individuals. Perform extensive walking, standing, and/or running in normal duties. Operate security equipment such as BRIVO, cameras, and alarms. Report and investigate security breaches, suspicious activity, or illegal activity to supervisors or authorities. Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling patients or equipment. Screen all individuals entering the facilities to ensure proper purpose; check ID badges and ensure employees wear required badges; verify vendors and contractors. Ensure visitors comply with TCRHCC rules and regulations. Escort unauthorized persons away from the campus. Provide security escorts to employees, patients, families, and visitors with a friendly demeanor. Assist with campus parking, screen visitors to parking lots, and address parking issues. Provide support during helicopter landings. Participate as directed in all Emergency Preparedness Events. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other emergency services as needed. Conduct security checks on staff members with access to sensitive areas. Monitor security cameras and alarm systems for unusual activity. Participate in regular training to maintain and improve security skills. Conduct mobile patrols of all TCRHCC residential areas, report suspicious activities, and contact authorities for criminal activities. Assist with transportation and lifting of deceased bodies. Remain within assigned patrol areas unless properly relieved; provide relief to security staff during breaks and act as backup when needed. Participate in the current fire and disaster plan. Conduct minor animal control. Wear proper PPE at all times while on duty, including masks, gloves, gowns, and respirators as appropriate. Perform safe donning and doffing of PPE and discard used PPE per CDC guidelines. Carry out training for routine cleaning and decontamination of surfaces contaminated by communicable diseases.
