Supply Quality Engineer

Galaxy Technologies

Job Description

Job Description

Job Purpose:

Galaxy Technologies is seeking a Supply Quality Engineer to serve as the primary technical liaison between internal teams—including Engineering, Procurement, and Manufacturing—and external suppliers. This role is responsible for ensuring that raw materials, components, and assemblies meet established quality requirements and specifications. The Supply Quality Engineer will lead supplier quality initiatives, resolve supplier-related quality issues, and drive continuous improvement throughout the supply chain to support operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

This position requires approximately 50% travel to supplier locations.

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Supplier Evaluation and Qualification

  • Evaluate and qualify new and existing suppliers by assessing manufacturing capabilities, quality systems, and process controls. Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance with company requirements and applicable industry standards, including ISO 9001 and AS9100. Support supplier onboarding activities and approval processes.

2. Quality Planning and New Product Introduction.

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, and Procurement teams to establish quality requirements, acceptance criteria, and inspection methods for new products and supplier-sourced components. Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions.

3. Nonconformance and Corrective Action Management

  • Lead investigations of supplier-related quality issues and nonconforming materials. Issue and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and ensure timely implementation of effective Root Cause Corrective Actions. Verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.

4. Supplier Auditing and Product Validation

  • Conduct on-site and remote supplier audits, process assessments, and quality system evaluations. Review and approve First Article Inspections (FAIs), inspection plans, and production validation activities. Ensure supplier compliance with contractual, regulatory, and customer requirements.

5. Supplier Performance Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor supplier quality performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and supplier scorecards. Analyze quality trends and collaborate with suppliers to reduce defects, improve process capability, eliminate waste, and increase yield. Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the supply chain.

Qualifications and Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  2. Experience: 2–7+ years of experience in quality engineering, manufacturing, or supply chain, with specific time spent in a supplier-facing role.
  3. Technical Proficiency: Ability to interpret engineering blueprints, 3D CAD models, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications. Working knowledge of metrology and inspection methods. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and quality-related documentation systems.
  4. Quality Systems: Knowledge of Quality Management Systems, including AS9100. Experience with Production Part Approval Process, Advanced Product Quality Planning, and Statistical Process Control.
  5. Problem Solving: Mastery of structured problem-solving tools such as the 5-Whys.
