Parks, Recreation, and Community Education (PRCE) Anticipated Hiring Range: $33.77/hr- $35.49/hr Full Salary Range: $33.77/hour - $42.19/hour Status: Full Time - Benefits Eligible 40hrs/week Application Deadline: Thursday, August 20, 2026 POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY The Town of Littleton is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time 40 hour/week, benefits eligible Program Coordinator position in the Parks, Recreation, and Community Education Department. Duties include overseeing the planning, budgeting, and organization of the Town’s Park, Recreation, and Community Education programs. Recruits, interviews, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates five to forty-five youth program counselors each season: depending on the number of program participants. Ensures proper certification levels for all staff. This includes instructing Red Cross courses for CPR, AED, and First Aid for Professional Rescuers. Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, or related field; experience in developing and scheduling a variety of enrichment programs; experience in municipal government; 1-3 years’ experience in the recreation field including one year in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. Other American Red Cross certificates such as Health and Safety Instructor or WSI/Lifeguarding preferred. This position will be subject to a thorough background check including references and driving history, drug/alcohol testing, and a physical exam. The starting salary range is $33.77/hr - $35.49/hr, commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt position governed by the Personnel Bylaw and Employee Handbook. The Town of Littleton is an EOE. FULL JOB DESCRIPTION Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and improve the operations of comprehensive indoor and outdoor recreation and community education offerings and enrichment programs for all community residents; all other related work as required. A PRCE Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, budgeting, scheduling, and marketing programs within the Department as well as helping to maintain and improve upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control. Supervision: Supervision Scope: Works in conjunction with the PRCE Director and Assistant Director. Performs responsible duties as assigned and relies on self-initiative and judgment for a majority of their work. Develops task requirements independently; works to ensure that projects are complete and programs are run successfully. Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Parks, Recreation and Community Education Director and Assistant Director; the employee functions independently referring matters to their superior only where direction, clarification or interpretations of department policies or procedures are required. The position is subject to review and evaluation according to the town's personnel plan. Supervision Given: Has full supervisory responsibility for year round programming staff and Community Education Instructors. They perform seasonal staff evaluations for in house programs. Manages behavioral issues and enforcement of disciplinary policy with participants and parents. *programs included are Camp Tahattawan, The CLUB afterschool program, Camp TX, Teen Adventures, Summer LEAP programs, school vacation programs, school holiday and half day programs, adult recreation, Long Lake Beach and aquatic programming, sports leagues and community education and recreation programs that occur seasonally. Work is performed under typical office conditions; work environment is fast paced with frequent interruptions in moderately noisy environments. Seasonally will perform duties and work in outside conditions where air temperature and conditions may fluctuate; will have seasonal exposure to inclement weather and high levels of noise while working at program, swim and camp sites. Regularly operates a motor vehicle, a computer, telephones, facsimile machine and other standard office machines. Must have knowledge, or ability to learn same, of recreation software package and applicable data systems. Interacts frequently with town residents, department staff, volunteers, and other town departments. Contacts are in person, by telephone, in writing and involve an information exchange dialogue. Has extensive access to Department personnel records, financial statements, and runs CORI and SORI reports, as well as access to other confidential personal information about program participants and staff which requires the application of appropriate judgment, discretion and professional protocols. Errors in judgment may result in significant delay or loss of services, poor public relations and may constitute adverse legal ramifications. Some programs will run nights and weekends. The weekly schedule will be amended to incorporate those hours so as to stay with in the 40 hour maximum. EssentialFunctions: Oversees the planning, budgeting, and organization of the Town’s Park, Recreation, and Community Education programs as assigned by the PRCE Director and Assistant Director. Researches and performs needs analysis to determine the enrichment interests and needs of Littleton’s residents in the areas of programming and community education. Collaborates with other Town departments and local business to improve programs and develop community building with Littleton. Develops, implements, and manages a variety of year-round, high quality programs, and activities to meet the identified needs and achieve department goals within available resources. Analyzes data to determine the success of the programs, and makes recommendations to the Director regarding the implementation of new programs. Recruits, interviews, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates five to forty-five youth program counselors each season; the number depends on the size of the program. Ensures proper certification levels for all staff. This includes instructing Red Cross courses for CPR, AED, and First Aid for Professional Rescuers. Organizes workloads, schedules field trips, buses, and seasonal staff assignments. Monitors the day-to-day operation of seasonal community education and recreation programs by making site visits, maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment, providing payroll information to Department staff assigned to process payroll, and handling residents’ inquiries and complaints. Prepares and monitors annual program budget including estimated revenue, expenses and surplus. Prepares presentation of program budget for the Director. Assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time ensuring programs are self-supporting by setting appropriate fees and monitoring program enrollment. Creates the assigned sections of each seasonal brochure, working with the other Program Coordinators and PRCE staff for specific content, layout, and graphics. Creates supplemental flyers for program marketing and uses social media and other strategies to promote community education and teen programs. Creates and edits program webpages on Department’s web site and adds new programs or amends old programs in our recreation software and to ensure that all information pertaining to community education and recreational programming is correct. Maintains all program information including program registration, tracking demographic data, and internet marketing. Explains and enforces the general policies of the department; advises the public on the availability and types of services, area conditions, and locations/costs/dates. Registers patrons for department activities and explains schedules to participants. Updates and services department online registration systems. Performs department administrative duties including: answering the telephone, taking messages, faxing, program registrations, composing and cataloging correspondence, and assisting in the development of department policies and procedures. Assists the Assistant Director in organizing and implementing certain special events for the community either as a Departmental function or in coordination with other Town departments. Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as situation dictates. Will require work some nights and weekends. Regular attendance and punctuality at the workplace is required. Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Education.TrainingandExperience: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, or related field; experience in developing and scheduling a variety of enrichment programs; experience in municipal government; 1-3 years’ experience in the recreation field including one year in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements: Valid MA driver’s license required, clean CORI/SORI report required. CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. Other American Red Cross certifications such as WSI/Lifeguarding preferred. National Parks and Recreation Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification or ability to obtain in the first year of employment. Knowledge.AbilityandSkill: Knowledge: Moderate knowledge of the principles and practices of leisure services, federal, state and local laws including Massachusetts municipal recreation standards. Thorough knowledge of computers and applicable software applications including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, website editing, and registration software. Ability to work at terminal for extended periods. Ability: Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal tactfully, patiently and appropriately with a variety of people including children and staff members. Able to delegate responsibility to support staff when applicable. Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines. Skill: Skill in all of the above listed tools and equipment. Excellent customer service skills, and attention to detail.
