Vehicle Weights and Processes Technician

The Weight Technician is responsible for performing accurate weight measurements and analysis of vehicle components, assemblies, and complete vehicles throughout the product lifecycle, from pilot builds through full production. This position supports vehicle development, manufacturing, certification, and regulatory compliance activities by ensuring vehicles meet established mass, payload, and weight distribution requirements. As a member of the Salary Bargaining Unit (SBU), the Weight Technician serves as a technical specialist supporting engineering organizations, assembly plants, pilot operations, and vehicle programs. The role requires a strong understanding of vehicle weight ratings, metrology principles, measurement systems, and automotive manufacturing processes. Basic Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent Minimum of 5 years of experience Working knowledge of: Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) Payload calculations Vehicle weight distribution and balance Vehicle certification requirements Automotive manufacturing processes Understanding of measurement science and metrology principles. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and technical specifications. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work independently while supporting multiple vehicle programs and stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Metrology, or a related technical field. Experience with vehicle weighing, metrology, manufacturing, laboratory operations, or automotive engineering. Familiarity with pilot build operations and vehicle launch activities. Knowledge of quality management systems and calibration processes. Experience and Knowledge of ISO 17025 Standards for Measurement Labs Working Conditions Regular travel between engineering facilities, pilot operations, supplier locations, proving grounds, and manufacturing plants.
