As a Street Maintenance Worker, you'll work on a variety of projects that improve safety, enhance neighborhoods, and support essential public services. No two days are the same you'll operate equipment, repair infrastructure, respond to community needs, and help keep our city running smoothly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain streets, curbs, alleys, public rights-of-way, and related infrastructure.
• Perform utility cuts
• Operate heavy equipment and vehicles, including backhoes, dump trucks, pothole patching equipment, and other specialized machinery.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Prepare worksites, assemble necessary tools and materials, and ensure safe work practices are followed.
• Install new drainage pipes and repair existing storm sewer and drainage systems.
• Clean and maintain drainage ditches, storm sewers, and related infrastructure to ensure proper water flow.
• Maintain road rights-of-way through mowing, brush removal, vegetation control, and general upkeep.
• Construct, install, repair, and maintain street signs and related traffic control devices.
• Clean and restore worksites following project completion.
• Respond to citizen complaints, service requests, and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies, severe weather events, and other urgent situations as required.
• Work cooperatively with other utility and public works departments to support city operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess:

• Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and safety practices used in the maintenance and repair of streets, alleys, rights-of-way, drainage systems, and related public infrastructure.
• Skill in the safe operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment, vehicles, power tools, and hand tools.
• Ability to plan and organize work assignments and estimate the time, labor, and resources necessary to complete tasks efficiently.
• Ability to identify maintenance issues, exercise sound judgment, and solve problems in the field.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, other departments, and members of the public.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in varying weather conditions and environments.
• Ability to read, measure and calculate types and sizes of materials needed for street repairs and utility cuts.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and work outside normal business hours when required.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Valid Texas Driver's license., Class B CDL within one (1) year of date of employment. One (1) year of street maintenance experience preferred. Asphalt experience and experience working with paving equipment is preferred but not required.


Special Requirements

Ability to work outside in all temperature extremes. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds in a safe manner. May be required to respond to after hours emergencies.
