Executive Underwriter or AVP underwriting Director

Overview Zurich is seeking an Umbrella Executive Underwriter or AVP Underwriting Director to join our Los Angeles team! Excess Casualty/Umbrella is a key business segment within National Accounts, focused on attracting top customer advocates with a sales mindset, strong technical underwriting skills, and solution-focused problem-solving abilities. Responsibilities Serve as a customer industry advocate, improving the customer experience by understanding risk and offering the best end-to-end solutions. Apply a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing. Use risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale. Identify gaps, align Zurich’s products and value proposition, and provide contract certainty to customers. Demonstrate strong analytical skills and act as an innovative advisor. Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business. Market-face and produce within the growing Umbrella division. Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating manual rules. Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships. Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments. Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market-Facing, or 10 or more years in Claims or Underwriting Support, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in Underwriting or Market-Facing, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support. Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience with time-restrained quotes for new and renewal business, and teamwork. High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market-Facing, or 14 or more years in Claims or Underwriting Support, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years in Underwriting or Market-Facing, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support. Requires experience with Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Salary and Benefits Our pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The combined salary range for this position is $113,100.00 – $276,900.00. The Executive Underwriter range is $113,100.00 – $209,300.00 with a 15% short-term incentive bonus, and the Underwriting Director range is $149,500.00 – $276,900.00 with a 20% short-term incentive bonus.
