Assistant Operations Manager, Inland Marine

Overview Assistant Operations Manager - Inland Marine Locations: Chicago, Scottsdale, Atlanta As an Assistant Operations Manager for our Inland Marine business, you will manage underwriting support staff, ensuring the team achieves service delivery, timeliness, productivity and quality goals, and identifies and communicates regulatory compliance issues. This includes human resource management such as coaching, counseling, goal setting and staff development. You will promote teamwork and collaboration with underwriters and leadership. What You’ll Be Doing Essential responsibilities include: Conducts performance evaluations; recommends salary adjustments; coaches and counsels staff. Establishes unit and individual goals in concert with the Operations Manager. Ensures compliance with predetermined workflows and procedures. Ensures the unit complies with Internal Audit, Peer Reviews and/or FIC audit recommendations; assists with developing appropriate responses and action plans in response to audit findings. Ensures work is completed in accordance with service standards. Reviews and manages production and quality control reports and takes appropriate action (e.g., data quality, reinsurance, production status control reports). Translates quality, timeliness, productivity and service delivery requirements into individual, team and unit performance goals; defines how performance will be measured and data collected. Keeps Department Management informed of status and progress in the unit. Manages the team in hiring, performance management, development and trainings, schedule coordination, and related activities. Maintains open communication with underwriters supported by the unit to foster partnership and teamwork. Drives ongoing process enhancements within underwriting operations for inland marine; collaborates with offshore teams to identify efficiencies, implement best practices, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. You will report to the Head of Underwriting Operations - Middle Market, Wholesale & Regions. What You Will Bring We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: College degree or equivalent experience with advanced insurance study preferred. Proven leadership experience and/or leadership development via XL leadership development curriculum. Appropriate combination of commercial P&C insurance rating, coding, underwriting assistant skills. Advanced knowledge of commercial P&C insurance policy forms and regulatory requirements. Familiar with insurance operating systems used to rate, code, track or issue insurance policies. Skilled with MS Office desktop software. Knowledge of commercial P&C insurance products and tools such as ISO, NCCI, regulatory and other informational websites used in the commercial P&C business. Proactive worker with time management, problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities and work with limited direct supervision.
