The RMG is engaged in providing critical services to California employers by processing timely and accurate Rate Protests, Petitions and Hearings workloads to ensure their reserve account is properly charged. These workloads require analytical skills, attention to details and excellent communication skills. Our team values and welcomes responsibility, teamwork, and innovation.

About this role:

Successful candidates will have a combination of great analytical and communication skills and good judgment. They will perform a mixture of routine to complex, difficult, and sensitive assignments in the maintenance of employer Unemployment Insurance (UI) reserve accounts in the Accounting and Compliance Enterprise System (ACES) and process the UI rate protests, petitions, and hearings. They will be responsible to apply the provisions of the California Unemployment Insurance Code (CUIC), Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations, Departmental regulations, rules, and policies Principles of Evidence as they pertain to UI rating, UI rate protests, petitions and hearings, reserve account transfers, and employer rates.


All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) listed on the Classification Specification should be included in your application package to clearly demonstrate how you meet the MQs for this position. This position is headquartered in Downtown Sacramento and may be eligible for telework under EDD's telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

RMG's location is within walking distance to Light Rail, farmer's markets during the summer months, the Golden 1 Center, and an eclectic collection of retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Describe your experience analyzing and interpreting state tax laws and regulations. Provide a specific example of a state tax issue you addressed, including how you researched the applicable statutes or rulings, applied them to the situation, and what the outcome was?

Background Investigation Requirement


The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation. However, applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.

The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department. The department will consider potential mitigating factors, including, but not limited to, evidence and extent of rehabilitation, recency, nature and seriousness, and age at the time of the offense(s).

The investigation will consist of completion of a personal history statement and fingerprinting checks with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and/or local law enforcement agencies. Anyone failing to pass the background investigation will be provided information on how to appeal the process. A criminal conviction may not result in an automatic determination of "Not Qualified."
