Mathematics Teacher - Secondary School

Position Overview Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Mathematics Teacher develops students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical, real‑world problems. Required Qualifications Valid Ohio teaching license in Mathematics (appropriate grade band for middle and/or high school) Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution Strong knowledge of mathematics content and instructional best practices Ability to build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues Commitment to equity, student achievement and continuous professional growth Preferred Qualifications Master's Preferred in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a related field Experience teaching middle school and/or high school mathematics Experience working in an urban school setting Familiarity with data‑driven instruction and intervention strategies Essential Performance Responsibilities Develop and administer mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and Ohio’s Learning Standards. Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction. Create lesson plans and instructional materials and translate them into learning experiences that develop sequential assignments and challenge students. Teach mathematics concepts such as real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations and geometry, encouraging creative thinking and analysis. Design learning activities that demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday problems. Provide individual and small‑group instruction as needed to support student growth. Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to meet individual needs, including students with special needs. Maintain familiarity with district and State of Ohio standardized assessments to adapt curriculum for maximum student achievement. Keep accurate and complete records for grading, attendance and reporting in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws. Continue to acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings or research. Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents. Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere. Collaborate with other staff, particularly within grade level or content area, and participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities and committees. Select and requisition instructional materials, textbooks, supplies and maintain inventory records. Engage in continuous professional growth via workshops, seminars, professional meetings and other learning opportunities. Additional Duties Perform other related tasks assigned by the Principal and district administrators. Use standard office and instructional equipment. Travel to district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy and differentiated instruction. Knowledge of a wide range of mathematics subject areas, including arithmetic, calculus, trigonometry and geometry. Knowledge of data‑information systems, data analysis and formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications. Organizational and coordination skills. Effective communication with students and parents. Self‑evaluation for performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
