Data Center Engineer - Columbus- OH

Shift Requirements First Shift Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. Responsibilities Independently accountable for identifying and responding to onsite risks and high‑priority issues rapidly and effectively, troubleshooting incidents, shift turnover, incident queues, media processing, and escorting vendors. 40% of the time: Work with the Product Owner, Service Owner and Subject Matter Experts to validate requirement context and execute user stories related to onsite data center systems, including critical system installs, data room moves, decommissions, reconfigurations, and data center/data room power‑down events. 20% of the time: Independently execute a variety of user stories with different contexts, actively contribute design opinions, and gain experience in OSI Model Layer 1 Infrastructure design/implementation/documentation, system automation via CI/CD pipelines and APIs, capacity planning, inventory planning, and related trade‑offs. 20% of the time: Demonstrate the ability to identify the basic building blocks and components of data centers and OSI Model Layer 1 Infrastructure, assess operational impacts, and apply knowledge of facilities and security components. 10% of the time: Define and evaluate team documentation for process improvement. 5% of the time: Regularly contribute to team agile ceremonies, lead demos and presentations, help new engineers learn established norms, and participate in technology communities. 5% of the time: Manage shift transition logistics, incident queues, media processing, and vendor escorting. Qualifications 1–3+ years of experience deploying and maintaining complex data center environments (new facility, major facility renovation/expansion). Understanding of indoor/outdoor cable plants, including copper cabling, long‑range and short‑range fiber optic cabling. Knowledge of IT infrastructure components: LAN/WAN/SAN, firewalls, Windows/Linux/UNIX servers, storage, roll‑on equipment, wireless, DAS. Knowledge of EIA/TIA, IEEE, NEC and ISO standards relating to data centers and structured cabling. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with internal team members and external vendors. Team player and self‑starter. Strong documentation skills to capture architecture details, procedures and other relevant data. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bachelor’s degree in CS/CIS/Network/Telecommunications or related field or equivalent work experience. Layer 1 technologies knowledge (Single Mode, Multimode, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, D‑A‑C, optical transceivers, connectors, performance specifications, deployment topologies and methods). Experience with TIA‑568 (Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard) and TIA‑942 (Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers). Hardware platforms: Network, Compute, IoT, AV, End User. Common network topologies and deployment methods. Power and cooling infrastructure layout, rack standards and selection criteria. Testing & verification of data center software installations and upgrades, APIs and system integration. OS platforms, preventive network security hardening, administration & configuration, installation instructions, configuration standards. Network configuration and troubleshooting knowledge across communication protocols. Network monitoring (SNMP, CDP, ICMP). Network automation programming frameworks and an automation‑first mindset.
