Location: Remote (if outside of 50 miles of DMV); if within the DMV, it is expected to work 2 days onsite a week

We are seeking a highly skilled GitHub Business Analyst to bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams by leveraging GitHub as a central platform for collaboration, requirements management, and delivery tracking. This role plays a critical part in modern software delivery by translating business needs into actionable development artifacts while enabling transparency, traceability, and efficiency across the software development lifecycle.


The ideal candidate brings strong analytical thinking, Agile expertise, and hands-on experience using GitHub for issue tracking, workflow management, and cross-team collaboration.


What You'll Do as a Senior Business Analyst


The GitHub Business Analyst serves as a strategic partner across engineering and operations teams. You will lead requirements definition, manage work items through GitHub, and ensure alignment between business objectives and technical execution.


Requirements Management & GitHub Enablement

• Lead requirements gathering sessions and translate outcomes into GitHub Issues, Epics, and Projects.
• Write clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Ensure requirements are structured to meet SMART standards.
• Maintain traceability between requirements, commits, pull requests, and releases.
• Challenge assumptions and validate requirements with stakeholders.

Backlog & Workflow Management

• Manage and prioritize the backlog items using GitHub, ServiceNow or other Fed-approved platforms.
• Prepare backlog items for sprint planning and estimation.
• Define and optimize GitHub workflows (issue templates, labels, automation rules).
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Engineering Leads.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Act as liaison between business stakeholders and engineering teams utilizing GitHub.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies (standups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives).
• Coordinate across distributed teams using GitHub discussions, comments, and documentation.
• Mentor junior analysts on GitHub best practices and Agile delivery.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Support QA efforts by defining acceptance criteria and validating completed work.
• Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and track defects within GitHub.
• Ensure issues are properly categorized (bugs, enhancements, features).

Stakeholder Engagement

• Provide updates on progress, risks, and releases using GitHub dashboards and reporting tools.
• Conduct sprint demos and communicate release notes.
• Respond to stakeholder inquiries and translate feedback into actionable items.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain documentation in GitHub Wiki or other Fed-approved repositories including SharePoint and Confluence.
• Create user guides, SOPs, FAQs, and process flows.
• Generate reports using GitHub Insights, metrics, and integrated tools.
• Track and document change requests and release notes.

Continuous Improvement & Governance

• Identify opportunities to improve GitHub workflows and team efficiency.
• Establish best practices for issue management, branching strategies, and collaboration.
• Promote DevOps culture and GitHub adoption across teams.
• Support governance, compliance, and audit readiness through proper documentation.

GitHub Business Analyst - Qualifications


Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in Agile or DevOps environments.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience using GitHub (Issues, Projects, Pull Requests, Actions, Wikis) .
• 1+years of experience working in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) environment.
• 1+ years of experience translating business requirements into technical artifacts.
• 1+ years of experience working with cross-functional, distributed teams.
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with tools integrated with GitHub (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Slack).
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience supporting cloud-based or modern application development.
• Knowledge of version control, branching strategies, and release management.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
