May coordinate and supervise work crews engaged in performing maintenance activities.Minimum RequirementsEducationHigh School Diploma. Additional vocational/technical training and/or apprenticeship is desirable.Certification/LicenseMust possess a valid South Carolina driver's license or government issued picture ID.Work ExperienceFive to seven years of experience in the general maintenance of facilities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, materials, and supplies of the maintenance trades including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, etc.Knowledge of the practices, policies, and procedures of the District as they pertain to the position.Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades; SC fire codes and laws governing the construction and repair of equipment and buildings.Skill in the application of sketches, plans, blueprints, and work orders for the completion of maintenance work.Ability to anticipate the supplies, materials, tools, and equipment needed for project completion.Ability to operate and/or utilize assigned maintenance equipment and materials.Ability to prioritize and coordinate the flow of work for multiple projects that require successful adaptation to stressors, emergencies, tight deadlines, etc.Ability to monitor assigned subordinate crews and/or maintenance personnel and outside contractors as necessary.Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications and Microsoft/Google Suite.Essential DutiesPerforms general and varied maintenance activities as required to maintain District kitchen facilities and equipment. Inspects facilities, systems, and their components regularly to identify needed repairs; coordinates with supervisors and other trades workers for the purpose of efficiently completing projects and work orders.Makes recommendations to food service supervisory personnel concerning the proper care, use, and maintenance of food service equipment and facilities.Evaluates kitchen equipment and facilities to determine the best course of action for repairs or replacement of non-functioning equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on a regular schedule.Coordinates with the District's contracted food services staff for work order requests. Follows up on scheduling, updates, and any necessary outsourcing.Promptly responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns; takes appropriate action to effectively resolve concerns and maintain a functioning food service environment.Maintains an inventory of needed equipment, materials, and parts to provide prompt and efficient service to District locations. Purchases required maintenance equipment and supplies; maintains maintenance equipment, ensuring that it is in safe and effective operating condition.Coordinates with maintenance contractors for repairs that are non-routine in nature. Gathers information, prepares specifications, reviews bids, assists in awarding bids, inspects completed work and approves/disapproves such work, and performs related activities.Makes recommendations to the Coordinator of Food Services on the repair and/or modification of facilities.Performs repairs or work in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, security, communications, grounds, and other trade areas as needed.Demonstrates prompt, regular attendance and is available to work in-person during normal business hours, after-hours, and weekends due to repair schedules.Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Physical Abilities and Working ConditionsVision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods of time.Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone, computer, or virtual setting.Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers; twist and bend at wrist and elbows; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh twenty-five (25) or more pounds on a frequent basis.Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information on a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a proficiency level appropriate to the position; sound judgment; the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
