cGMP Flow Cytometry Specialized Laboratory Technician

The University of Southern California (USC), located in downtown Los Angeles, is a leading research university. The Keck School of Medicine, Department of Medicine is seeking a Flow Cytometry Specialized Lab Technician to work in a current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) facility. Responsibilities Design, optimize, and execute multiparametric flow cytometry assays for immune phenotyping, cell characterization, and quality control testing. Conduct laboratory procedures including cell handling and culture, panel setup, antibody titration, staining optimization, and data review. Perform sample preparation, antibody staining, instrument setup, daily quality control, data acquisition, and basic data analysis. Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and ensure strict adherence to SOPs, documentation practices, and quality control requirements. Execute daily instrument startup, calibration, compensation setup, and routine maintenance of flow cytometers. Troubleshoot instrument performance and support consistent instrument performance. Train investigators and students in specialized laboratory techniques and provide technical consulting in the area of expertise. Assist in protocol or policy development and perform other highly specialized laboratory tests as appropriate. Comply with safety policies, infection control regulations, and hazardous material handling protocols. Create and maintain databases and spreadsheets to manage and process information or data. Supervise, train, and provide instruction to unit employees and student workers as assigned; manage workload, set goals and deadlines, and ensure timely completion of unit work. Assist in budget preparation, track and monitor assigned budget expenditures, and report on variances; maintain supplies and inventory, and prepare purchase orders as needed. Research developments in the field, read journals, attend professional association meetings and seminars as appropriate. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Qualifications Degree in a directly related specialized scientific field; preferred immunology or a related discipline. Minimum of 2 years of experience in cell therapy development and flow cytometry. Prior strong hands‑on experience in flow cytometry including multiparametric panel setup, antibody staining, instrument operation, and basic data analysis. Demonstrated knowledge of flow cytometry principles such as compensation, fluorophore selection, gating strategies, and immune cell subset identification. Familiarity with cytometry analysis software and standard laboratory documentation practices. Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment used in cGMP manufacturing and quality control testing. Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to work independently and in a dynamic team environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and quality assurance principles meticulously. Excellent teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g., FDA, EMA) related to cGMP. Preferred: Master’s degree and 3 years of experience in cell therapy development. Salary range: The hourly rate range for this position is $34.32 – $36.05 per hour.
