Test Cell Operations Intern (Summer 2027)

Job Summary GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Test Cell Operations Intern for Summer 2027. This role will support engine, powertrain, and component testing in a high-performance development environment. This role is hands-on and learning-focused, working closely with engineers and technicians to assist in operating test cells, preparing hardware, and collecting data. It is ideal for students interested in motorsports or high-performance automotive engineering. Date of Internship: Summer 2027 Job Location: On-Site in Concord, NC Key Responsibilities Assist engineers and technicians in executing test plans and procedures. Support installation and removal of engines, gearboxes, and components in test cells. Help prepare test cells, tooling, and instrumentation for scheduled tests. Observe and assist with operation of engine and powertrain dyno systems under supervision. Perform basic troubleshooting of test setups and report issues to senior staff. Collect, organize, and document test data accurately. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and basic upkeep of test cell areas. Follow all safety procedures and company standards during testing activities. Communicate progress and issues clearly with the test team. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or related Engineering field. Strong interest in engines, powertrains, or motorsports engineering. Basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience (school projects, labs, clubs, or personal work). Familiarity with engines, drivetrains, or vehicle systems (academic or extracurricular). Willingness to learn test cell operations and automation tools Exposure to dyno testing, data acquisition, or MATLAB through coursework or projects.
