Therapeutic Medical Physicist (Advanced Level)

Job Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Major Duties Duties include but are not limited to managing the development and implementation of advanced techniques and special initiatives in radiotherapy, collaborating with radiation oncologists on new clinical protocols, and directing special projects involving clinical applications, research, or quality assurance. The incumbent serves as a subject‑matter expert on therapeutic medical physics, providing consultative services to the National Radiation Oncology Program (NROP), the National Health Physics Program (NHPP), other VHA program offices, and federal agencies. The incumbent offers liaison support with professional organizations governing medical physics, plans, delivers, verifies, and monitors quality assurance of radiotherapy at all complexity levels, recommends optimal modality and treatment technique for the patient, evaluates quality, safety, and accuracy of radiation treatments, and safely operates all radiation planning and delivery services. The incumbent implements radiation therapy of outstanding technical difficulty, providing knowledge‑based solutions for complex issues, and provides technical oversight for developmental TMPS, medical dosimetrists, and radiation therapists. The incumbent will be a knowledgeable user and subject‑matter expert in Raystation, ARIA R&V delivery system, and Sun Nuclear QA equipment and software. Qualifications You must be a U.S. citizen and proficient in written and spoken English. Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. You must be subject to a background/security investigation and complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable forms of identification are required; effective 7 May 2025, non‑REAL‑ID driver licenses and state‑issued identification cards will not be accepted. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP); a medical or religious exemption must be accompanied by a mask requirement. Applicants will serve a 1 to 2‑year trial period during which fitness and continued employment are evaluated. Completion of the trial period will result in termination unless certification is provided that continued employment advances the public interest.
