Critical Care Nocturnist Position
Nocturnist Intensivist Overview:
- We welcome applications from qualified candidates specializing in Family Medicine/Internal Medicine with a focus on Critical Care, Pulmonary Critical Care, Anesthesia Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine Critical Care.
- This role entails overseeing patients during nighttime hours in a 20-bed Medical ICU and a 10-bed Cardiac ICU. Our open ICU model permits admissions by hospitalists, family medicine residents, and surgical teams (including CT Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Cardiology).
- The position also includes admitting patients to the Medical-Telemetry and Progressive Care Units (PCU).
- Our Family Medicine Residency Program acts as the Rapid Response and Code Team for all hospital floors during the night.
A Typical Night Shift: 7 PM to 7 AM. This role focuses on nighttime admissions and ongoing patient care in a combined 30-bed Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit, while also alternating admissions to medical floors with the medical nocturnist. A third physician covers a swing shift from 7 PM to 11 PM, Monday through Thursday (the busiest nights), to assist with admissions and manage phone calls during peak hours. Each nocturnist typically handles 4-6 admissions per night.
About Our Hospital: Our organization is a 358-bed county-owned non-profit regional community hospital serving a 7-county area in the upstate Lakelands region of South Carolina. We have 30 critical care beds in our ICU/CICU and a 32-bed step-down unit. Our service area encompasses a growing population of 250,000 to 300,000, located just one hour south of the Greenville metropolitan area. We maintain close affiliations with Abbeville Area Medical Center and Edgefield County Healthcare.
Required Procedures: Candidates must possess ACLS certification and be skilled in Central Lines, Arterial Lines, Intubation, Mechanical Ventilator Management, with bronchoscopy skills being a plus.
Specialty Support: Our team enjoys strong collaborative relationships with various specialty colleagues, providing extensive backup in areas such as Anesthesia, Cardiology (including interventional, TAVR, and EP), Critical Care/Pulmonology, CT Surgery, Endocrinology, ENT, General Surgery, GI, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Maxillofacial Surgery, Medical Genetics, Nephrology, Neurohospitalists, Neurosurgery, OBGYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Palliative Care, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Urology, and Vascular Surgery.
Electronic Medical Records: We utilize Epic, along with Dragon dictation and DAX (AI Dictation)/Insights.
Team Composition: Our group consists of 23 full-time physicians and 1 full-time Physician Assistant focused on surgical co-management.
