Legal Practice Technology Principal of Review & AI Services

$203k - $253k

Kirkland & Ellis

Legal Practice Technology Principal of Review & AI Services Category: Litigation & Practice Technology At Kirkland & Ellis, we don’t just meet the standard for legal excellence — we set it. Our culture is built on teamwork, ingenuity and an unwavering commitment to continuous growth. We tackle the most sophisticated legal challenges with bold ideas and innovative solutions, powered by the exceptional experience and ambition of our 7,000+ people, including 4,000+ attorneys, across 23 offices worldwide. Our dedicated professionals share our lawyers’ commitment to excellence and show up each day to do meaningful work that helps drive global business, investment and innovation forward. What You’ll Do You are a seasoned eDiscovery leader ready to shape the future of legal document review at the intersection of litigation strategy and artificial intelligence. You bring deep experience managing complex reviews, investigations, and productions, and you're looking for a platform to apply that expertise at scale while building and advancing AI-enabled workflows across one of the world's most sophisticated litigation practices. You thrive in a collaborative, high-performance environment, and you're energized by the opportunity to partner directly with case teams on active matters, lead cross‑functional initiatives, and help define how a forward‑thinking firm continues to integrate emerging technology into the daily practice of law. Impact. Sitting within the firm's Innovation Program, you will report to the Director of Legal Practice Technology (“LPT”) and serve as a senior leader responsible for directing, supporting, and participating in a team of advisors, project managers, and data science specialists. Your mandate is to define and execute workflows focused on the thoughtful analysis and production of client documents, while aiding attorneys in fact development across the full lifecycle of litigations, internal investigations, regulatory responses, and other complex legal matters. You will actively contribute to broader firm innovation initiatives by bringing operational perspective to emerging technology adoption and the evolution of firm‑wide capabilities and services. Design & Execution of Review Workflows and Analytics. You will partner with key stakeholders to develop and advance strategies for embedding AI and analytics into standardized review, validation, and production workflows. In partnership with a team of legal process engineers, you will define and build key workflows that connect common discovery tasks with adjacent workstreams including early fact investigation, deposition preparation, expert report analysis, and other fact development projects. You will work with leadership to ensure these workflows are forward‑looking, evaluating emerging technologies and enhancements, assessing their applicability to service delivery needs, and providing recommendations on adoption and implementation. Client‑Matter Advisory. You will dedicate over 50% of your time to direct client‑matter engagement, serving as a trusted advisor embedded within case teams. You will develop and maintain substantive case knowledge to deliver continuous, high‑value consulting and inform optimal workflow design and implementation. You will champion the integration of firm best practices across review workflows, team collaboration, and matter documentation to reinforce defensibility and consistency. Team Building & Growth. You will join a leadership team dedicated to modeling and fostering a culture of open, constructive communication and collaboration, transforming individual expertise into team knowledge and department‑wide success. You will play an active role in building and strengthening team capabilities with a particular focus on accelerating maturity in analytics and GenAI‑enabled review practices, driving awareness, engagement, and adoption of these tools to improve individual proficiency and overall delivery effectiveness. What You’ll Bring Juris Doctorate required. 15+ years delivering consultative eDiscovery services with a career built around managing complex reviews including investigations, document review, production, and privilege workflows across sophisticated matters. Demonstrated experience designing, iterating, and validating GenAI‑assisted document review workflows, with hands‑on proficiency with LLM‑based review tools, the ability to develop and refine model prompts, apply statistical validation techniques (recall, precision, and elusion testing), and produce defensible AI methodology documentation suitable for disclosure to opposing counsel or regulators. A working understanding of the end‑to‑end lifecycle of litigations and investigations, including familiarity with tasks attorneys undertake at each phase — such as preparing for depositions and witness interviews, analyzing expert reports, supporting brief drafting, and other fact‑intensive workstreams — sufficient to identify opportunities where technology, AI, and structured workflows can add value. Working knowledge of LLM capabilities and limitations, including hallucination risks, consistency challenges, and document‑by‑document versus corpus‑level review distinctions, with the ability to apply GenAI solutions across the review lifecycle, including document summarization, privilege and PII identification, early case assessment, and multi‑issue classification, with the ability to assess model performance and implement human‑in‑the‑loop quality controls. Practical expertise in prompt engineering, content engineering, RAG, and AI orchestration frameworks, as well as a technical understanding of knowledge graphs, ontologies, and their application to conceptual knowledge layers, including familiarity with graph database solutions such as Neo4j as applied to legal data classification, entity relationships, and AI‑driven document analysis. Experience advancing cross‑functional eDiscovery team maturity through standardized documentation, training, technology adoption, combined with exceptional organizational skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach that balances independent initiative with alignment to leadership directives. Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to engage clients, attorneys, and firm leadership at all levels with accuracy, professionalism, and accountability. Hands‑on familiarity with general‑purpose legal AI tools (e.g. Harvey, Legora) is preferred, particularly if you’ve evaluated or advised on their use in legal workflows, especially experience distinguishing these tools from purpose‑built eDiscovery review technologies and identifying the right use cases for each. Demonstrated expertise in areas such as advanced project management methodologies, complex data processing, litigation readiness, and/or information governance consulting is preferred. Experience working hands‑on with TAR and analytics tools (e.g., Brainspace, NexLP) is preferred, especially where you’ve applied CAL/CMML or similar techniques for deduplication, email threading, review prioritization, sampling, production QC, privilege identification, or other predictive models.
