Primary Purpose: To reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interferes with the individual student's ability to derive full benefits from the district's educational program. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master's degree in Speech Pathology Licensed by the State Board of Examiner of Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting check/background check Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of student to whom assigned Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, peers, parents and community Ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for assigned students.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping Motion: Arm, hand, finger movement Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40+ lbs.) Environment: Frequent district-wide travel Mental Demands: Ability to interpret policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both verbal and written; maintain emotional control under stress

- Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Maintain case records on all referred students.
- Recommends corrective procedures.
- Provide a therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of students.
- Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
- Assists and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech-language impairments.
- Attends case conferences on placement of individual students.
- Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice hearing, and language impairment.
- Prepares and submits required reports on students with Speech-Language impairments.
- Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
- Assist with in-service training of school personnel.
- Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student's needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
- Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
- Keeps thorough on-going records for the individual students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Compiles case history.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
