Sanitation Equipment Operator

About The Position

Performs intermediate semi-skilled work operating solid waste collection and transport equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Job Duties

• Operates transfer truck and heavy construction equipment to transport recyclable materials, refuse and other materials to landfill, collection sites or other disposal locations.
• Performs large item removal/relocation as necessary.
• Assists with storm and natural disaster cleanup.
• Performs other assigned duties.

Position Qualifications

• General knowledge of the operation and servicing of automotive equipment.
• General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
• General knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of work.
• Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
• Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public

Education, Experience and Supplemental Information

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Successful completion of In-House CDL Certification required within 6 months of hire.
