Senior Data Engineer

Job Overview Position: Senior Data Engineer – Iron EagleX (IEX), a subsidiary of General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) Location: Crystal City, VA Senior Data Engineer responsible for designing, building, and operating high‑volume, multi‑source data pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and AI use cases. Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement scalable data pipelines and ETL processes using Apache Airflow, delivering analytics‑ready data. Build and tune search and retrieval capabilities using ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, including index strategies, schema mappings, and performance optimization. Enable performant data access for analytics and reporting by optimizing access patterns, caching, and index refresh strategies. Collaborate with analysis teams to define requirements, schemas, metrics, and interfaces for downstream consumption. Use Git for version control, peer code reviews, CI/CD workflows, and reproducible pipeline deployments across environments. Operate within Linux environments and perform performance tuning across pipeline components, storage layers, and compute resources. Required Skills Experience with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration. Strong programming skills in Python. Experience with ElasticSearch/OpenSearch for data indexing and search functionalities. Experience developing analytics‑ready datasets, data models, and reusable data products for reporting and analysis. Expertise in event‑driven architecture and microservices development. Hands‑on experience with cloud services such as MinIO for data storage and compute resources. Strong understanding of data pipeline orchestration and workflow automation. Working knowledge of Linux environments and database optimization techniques. Strong understanding of version control with Git. Experience supporting reporting, dashboarding, or advanced analytics use cases. Familiarity with data quality, governance, documentation, and validation practices. Qualifications Current Top Secret/SCI clearance required; ability to obtain Top Secret SCI + Polygraph clearance. Minimum 5 years of related experience in data engineering or related fields. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). US citizen required. What You’ll Need to Succeed Onsite work in Crystal City, VA with optional CONUS travel. Current TS/SCI clearance. Ability to obtain clearance as required. Compensation Likely salary range: $134,898 – $182,510 (based on experience, location, and contractual requirements). Work Details Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Travel required: 10‑25%.
