CNC 3D Programmer

Job Description Job Title: Machinist Status: Non-Exempt Department: Tooling Reports to: Toolroom Supervisor and Director of Inter-Departmental Relations Company Overview: Mercury Plastics, founded in 1955 and currently entering third generation leadership, has been at the forefront of the Point of Purchase display industry for the past 58 years. Vertically integrated but specializing in thermoforming, Mercury has a reputation for quick turnarounds and quality plastic products that can be found in Mom-and-Pop shops all the way to the large, big box retailers. Mercury operates out of a 140,000 square foot facility on Chicago’s west side, minutes from the Metra Line Healy stop, and a 20-minute drive from downtown. Position Summary: This position is responsible for programming and machining ren prototype molds and aluminum production tools in CNC mills. Role qualifications: Experience with vacuum forming processes and tooling production. Strong knowledge and experience with CNC vertical mills. Ideally experience with Haas and/or Fadal equipment. Previous experience with PowerMill CAM software preferred. Strong experience in machining and metalworking Position Responsibilities: Responsible for the machining of vacuum forming patterns and tools. Modifying or repairing existing tooling as necessary. Supporting maintenance by repairing or creating parts for production equipment Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the CNC mills Employee may be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. Essential skills and experience: Strong CAD/CAM skills Strong CNC skills Good troubleshooting skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment going back and forth between projects. Experience in vacuum forming processes. Reporting to this position: No direct reports. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work performed in a manufacturing environment. Work may require working at different workstations as production needs require.
