Company Description The Labette County Sheriff's Office has served the residents of Labette County for nearly 150 years, providing consistent, community-focused public safety. The Office oversees the county jail, delivers court security, and offers primary law enforcement coverage in the unincorporated areas of the county 24/7. It also provides law enforcement services to the cities of Angola, Bartlett, Edna, Labette, Mound Valley, and Valeda. Labette County is largely rural, covering approximately 653 square miles and supporting a population of more than 20,000 citizens. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Correctional Officer position located in Oswego, KS. The Correctional Officer is responsible for maintaining safety and security within the county jail, including supervising detainees, conducting headcounts, and monitoring housing units and common areas. Daily duties include enforcing facility rules, performing cell searches, checking locks and security devices, and documenting incidents and activities in accordance with policy. The role also involves assisting with inmate intake and release processes, transporting individuals as needed, and supporting court and law enforcement operations when required. Correctional Officers collaborate closely with other staff to uphold professional standards, respond to emergencies, and ensure the well-being of all individuals in custody. Qualifications Demonstrated Supervisory Skills, including the ability to direct and monitor detainee activities and enforce rules fairly and consistently. Knowledge of Criminal Justice principles and Law Enforcement practices relevant to correctional facilities and public safety operations. Experience or training in Physical Security procedures, including facility checks, search techniques, and incident response. Background in Training, either providing or participating in ongoing education related to safety, de-escalation, and regulatory compliance. Strong communication, observation, and report-writing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in criminal justice or related fields is beneficial. Ability to meet physical requirements of the role, pass background checks, and complete mandatory certification and training programs. #J-18808-Ljbffr
