Interventional Radiology Technologist (Per Diem)

This is a per diem interventional radiology technologist role that will be utilized on an as needed basis. We perform vascular procedures under moderate sedation. The center is open Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm. You will need ARRT and state RT license. Come join us in the only JCAHO accredited outpatient ambulatory surgical center in the Mountain West performing high‑end Interventional Radiology. We are a brand new state‑of‑the‑art facility with new equipment and two of the most experienced IRs in the region with a full complement of nursing staff. We perform a full gamut of complex procedures including peripheral arterial disease, UFEs, prostate embolizations, liver embolizations, percutaneous dialysis AV fistula creations, dialysis interventions, venous ablations, peritoneal dialysis catheter placement, biopsies, chemotherapy port placement and venous access. Purpose and Scope Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision and core values. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, following all regulatory and policy requirements. Assists physicians in performing all types of interventional radiology procedures. Manages operation and quality control of radiological equipment in accordance with FMC policies and procedures. Assists with inventory and ordering of supplies. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Prepares the patient and the procedure room in compliance with FMCNA policies and procedures and state and federal regulations. Reviews patient‑specific procedure orders to determine required materials and supplies. Sets up, stocks, and cleans the procedure room and trays with all needed supplies and interventional equipment before and after each procedure. Documents all necessary preparations of the patient and procedure room when appropriate. Explains the procedure to the patient, answers questions and addresses concerns. Assists with patient preparation by positioning, shaving, and prepping for surgery. Performs patient transfers, positioning, and transport to and from the procedure room. Inputs patient data into the C‑Arm. Acts as scrub assistant aiding the physician during interventional procedures under fluoroscopy, maintaining sterile technique. Complies with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality. Draws up intravenous medication and labels it according to the Medication Labeling Policy in the sterile field. Processes x‑ray images and archives to a CD or DVD per FMCNA policies and state regulations. Provides outstanding quality of patient care through continuous quality improvement and use of FMCNA CQI tools. Assists with implementing FMCNA quality goals and facility‑specific action plans. Ensures medical records are accurate, complete, and compliant with FMCNA policies and procedures. Maintains environmental integrity and aesthetics; ensures all areas are clean, sanitary, and safe daily. Ensures all facility equipment and instruments are in proper working condition by inspecting them daily before and after procedures. "Makes recommendations regarding replacement of equipment and repairs," "Assists with disposal of hazardous waste materials, dirty linen, and rugs," and "Prepares, organizes, and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment to prevent wastage." Attends and participates in the governing body, assisting with meeting agenda and gathering data for meetings. Ensures effective communication with physicians. Attends and participates in CQI meetings, reporting on assigned topics. Works with physicians and staff to ensure all necessary instruments and equipment are available. Addresses physician concerns in areas of responsibility. Assists in training and orienting new employees on equipment. Ensures patient billing is accurate and timely by reviewing all procedures, documenting equipment charges, and verifying CPT and ICD9 codes. Assists with inventory, ordering, and re‑stocking of supplies. Acts as Radiation Safety Officer, monitors radiation badges, and conducts in‑services on radiation safety. Participates in all facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans. Other duties as assigned. Work environment characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers and positioning up to 400 pounds. Must be able to stand in a protective apron for up to 45–60 minutes. 10% travel. Supvision None Education High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred. Must have ARRT Certification and be a licensed Radiology Technician by the Department of Health. Per state requirements – must be licensed in radiology. Interventional Radiology certificate preferred. Experience and Required Skills 4–6 years’ related experience desirable; candidates with ARRT Certifications will be considered with at least 1 year of experience. Working knowledge of interventional equipment, including C‑Arm and ultrasound, procedures, and materials/supplies needed for each procedure; knowledge of sterile techniques. Experience with special procedures utilizing a C‑Arm. Knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective devices when operating radiology systems. Successfully complete BLS certification. Experience with monitoring and maintaining inventory. Proficient in the use of computers and related software such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
