Sorter
The Sorter is responsible for sorting materials such as organic material and general debris in the recycling yard and the rubble yard.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Manually sorts and segregates recoverable materials from the conveyor or tipping floor for incoming waste material in the Recycle Yard.
- Manually sort rubble on the floor and sort line in the rubble yard.
- Empty sorted material containers as needed.
- Assist coworkers as needed with heavy or bulky items.
- Consistently demonstrates a thorough understanding of all relevant policies, procedures, and work methods required to perform assigned duties effectively.
- Safely perform duties in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Attend weekly safety meetings.
- Ability to adhere to work schedule.
- Must be flexible to work early and late hours depending on workload.
- Completes special projects as may be assigned and prioritized by the on-site manager.
- Comply with OSHA regulations when using hazardous chemicals on company premises; comply with company safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Must be capable of learning specific sorting and material handling procedures.
- Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
- Ability to stand for eight plus hours per day.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to communicate and understand instructions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated individual.
Education and/or experience:
- Education not required
- 6 months of relevant work experience

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance for long periods of time on concrete floors; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
Work environment: We are a drug free & alcohol-free work environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; vibration, exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and dirty. Required to put on protective outfits, like gloves, safety footwear, safety eyeglasses, earplugs, and hardhat.
