Assistant US Attorney- Criminal BDS

Application Deadline: Tuesday, May 19, 2026 Job Description The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) will serve in the Criminal Division of the Dallas or Amarillo offices, investigating and prosecuting cases involving illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, foreign terrorist organizations, and specially designated global terrorists. The position is a term appointment not to exceed March 31, 2028, subject to funding availability. Partner with federal, state, and local law enforcement to manage criminal investigations and prosecutions brought in the federal courts in the Northern District of Texas. Advise federal agents on questions of law and Departmental policy. Recommend charging decisions and propose dispositions with regard to assigned cases. Research and draft all legal pleadings and be prepared to try cases in federal court. Investigate and pursue asset forfeiture related to prosecutions. Oversee and coordinate the preparation of litigation assignments for legal support staff. Qualifications Conditions of employment: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable background investigation. Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable. J.D. degree and active membership in a U.S. bar required. Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Required Qualifications Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post‑J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications Applicants should have superior oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, quick analytical ability, and the ability to articulate critical issues. The desired candidate will possess functional skills that allow independent problem solving, reliability, and collaborative contributing ideas. Excellent computer literacy, experience with automated internet research, electronic court filing, and electronic e‑mail and word processing systems are desired. Candidates should have at least 2–3 years of post‑J.D. experience. Benefits Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney pay is based on the number of years of professional attorney experience, ranging from $65,563.00 to $136,180.00 per year, with locality adjustments determined at the time of selection. Number of Positions: 1 Travel: 1 to 5 nights of travel required per month.
