Accountant

The Accountant is responsible for performing the general accounting and financial duties for the Colleges and LSSC Foundation, including recording the pre-award and post-award grants. Prepare journal entries and process accounting and budget transactions throughout the year. Performs a broad range of accounting duties that require knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements. Responsible for promoting and sustaining a collegial, respectful, and high-performing work environment for all employees. Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in preparing month-end and fiscal year-end closing and reporting processes in preparation for the Annual Financial Report for both the College and Foundation.
• Assist in maintaining the property management database.
• Assist in budget preparations.
• Reconciliation of all general ledger accounts
• Serve as backup for Accounts Payable processing/disbursing vendor checks when needed.
• Prepare invoices and billings.
• Process employee travel reimbursement requests according to LSSC policies and procedures.
• Assist with the preparation of audit schedules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Excellent skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to become proficient in MS Teams.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

• Required:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in an administration/accounting position, preferably in a two-year college/university setting.
  3. Evidence of analyzing financial data for reporting purposes.
• Preferred:
  1. Master's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  2. Banner or similar ERP experience.
