Position Purpose This position provides optimal patient care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of the nursing process. The incumbent is accountable for individualized patient outcomes over an entire episode of care. The incumbent provides comprehensive nursing services to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including their families/caregivers. Nature and Scope The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level 3 NICU with a 49‑bed unit for newborns born prematurely, needing specialized treatment, or who are sick. An in‑house neonatologist is available around the clock to provide the most advanced evidence‑based care for our tiniest population. Babies in the NICU are cared for in state‑of‑the‑art Giraffe OmniBeds, which are specialized isolettes and infant warmers all‑in‑one, reducing the stress on the baby. We take babies from roughly 23 weeks gestation to post‑term babies. This position provides optimal patient care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of the nursing process. The incumbent provides comprehensive nursing services to newborn, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including their families/caregivers. We have a neonatal transport team that brings infants with serious illnesses, injuries, or complications to Renown Children’s Hospital from outlying communities within a 200‑mile radius of Reno. Ambulances and planes with neonatal care equipment take the team to rural areas to begin treatment and bring the child to the safety and comfort of Renown’s NICU. Must have 1.5‑2 years NICU experience to apply. We cover all northern NV area, including Lake Tahoe, Tonopah, Oregon, and Idaho borders. Minimum Qualifications Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain Registered Nursing licensure in the State of Nevada. Experience: At least 3‑4 years of experience working under RN license is required. Three years of experience working in a Level 3 NICU or higher is preferred. License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license. State of Nevada Point of Care Analyst (POCA) license required within 120 days of hire: 200255, 209256, 200266, 400255, 400266. Certification(s): Current BLS certification by The American Heart Association standards. Other specific department required certificates: Employees will obtain the extra certifications within six months, unless otherwise specified, of being hired or transferring to the department that requires the additional certificates. PALS required for Department: 200322, 200323 within 6 months of being hired. NRP required for Departments: 200171, 200174, 200206 additional to BLS & RN. STABLE certification required for 200174 within 6 months of being hired or transferring. ENLS (Emergency Neuro Life Support) required for Department 200255 within 24 months of being hired or transferred. ENLS required for Department 200150 within 18‑24 months of being hired or transferred. ENPC or PALS required for Departments: 200255, 200266, 200268, 200276, 209256 within one year of being hired or transferring, in addition to ACLS, BLS & RN. ENPC or PALS required within 3 months of hiring: 200326. ENPC required for Department 200323 within 12 months of being hired. TNCC required for Departments: 200323, 200326 within 18 months of being hired or transferring. TNCC or TCAR required for Department 200202 within 18 months of hiring or transferring. TNCC and ENPC preferred: 400326. APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider required for Departments: 200178, 200179, 200324 within 24 months of being hired or transferring. OCN certification preferred. If not held, incumbent must complete at least 12 cancer‑related continuing education nursing contact hours in the first year and annually thereafter. If certified, incumbent must maintain minimum qualifications with code 200113. Chemotherapy Immunotherapy training per ASCO standards within 1 year of hire required for Department 200113. RNFA: RN may perform in the capacity of a first assist if a graduate of an accredited nursing school and completed an RNFA program that includes didactic and supervised clinical practice based on AORN's core curriculum for the RNFA 200201, 200340, 400201, 400340.
