Job Summary

Join the dynamic Emergency Department team at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This facility operates a comprehensive 64-bed ED, including dedicated areas for triage, acute care, super track, trauma, clinical decision unit (CDU), and psychiatric patients. As an ED RN, you will provide critical care to a diverse patient population ranging from newborns and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics, presenting with a wide array of acute and life-threatening conditions.

This role demands a highly skilled and adaptable nurse capable of managing complex cases such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure. You will be responsible for rapid assessment, intervention, and stabilization in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Floating to other units may be required based on hospital needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive direct patient care to a diverse patient population (newborn, pediatric, adult, geriatric) experiencing acute and critical medical conditions.
• Perform rapid and accurate patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate patient responses in the Emergency Department.
• Manage and stabilize patients presenting with conditions including, but not limited to, stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
• Administer a wide range of medications, including critical care drips such as pressors, vasodilators, anti-arrhythmics, and sedatives.
• Operate specialized medical equipment, including Rapid Infusors and Arctic Sun.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
• Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records using the EPIC system.
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Be prepared to float to other units within the facility as needed to support patient care demands.
• Wear navy blue scrubs as per unit dress code.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
• Demonstrated experience providing care to pediatric patients within the ED environment.
• Prior travel nursing experience is required.
• Proficiency and experience with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Must meet residency requirements for travel assignments (typically 75+ miles from the facility).

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience and demonstrated capability as a Charge Nurse.

Skills & Competencies

• **Clinical Skills:** Advanced cardiac life support, basic life support, pediatric advanced life support, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessment, trauma nursing care, critical care drip management (e.g., Levophed, Neo, Epi, Vasopressin, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Cleviprex, Cardene, NTG, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lido, Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, TNK, Heparin, Insulin).
• **Equipment Proficiency:** Rapid Infusor, Arctic Sun.
• **Soft Skills:** Exceptional critical thinking, rapid assessment and decision-making, effective verbal and written communication, strong teamwork and collaboration, adaptability to fluctuating patient volumes and acuity, stress management, and excellent organizational skills.

Licensing Requirements
