Job Description

Helps maintains liaison by telephone and personal contact with local Congressional staff, the public, members of the Armed Forces, clergy of various faiths, and individuals in responsible civic position in matters pertaining to internments. Develops, implements, and evaluates public awareness, educational and outreach plans for FMNC with emphasis on its mission, responsibilities, and delivery of burial benefits. Performs work related to public affairs activities such as coordinating media interviews, developing communication plans, and coordinating agency information programs. Organizes and coordinates print and broadcast media interviews with key NCA and FMNC Director and oversees all arrangements with the media involving FMNC activities and outreaches. Participates in outreach within the local community to keep stakeholders abreast of VA burial entitlements, and cemetery happenings. The position requires infrequent travel (cannot approximate) to the ONC in the event an employee is unable to arrive to work and complete their shift and/or daily responsibilities for a multitude of reasons. Overnight travel will be required in some of the beforementioned travel. Performs public outreach as needed.

Work schedule: Required to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. May include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day and Veteran's Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
