Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, flexible, and motivated individual to join our team as a Straight Truck Driver & Operations Support employee. This position combines regular DOT-regulated driving responsibilities with office-based transportation and dispatch support as business needs require.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable operating commercial vehicles safely and efficiently while also having the computer skills, communication abilities, and organizational skills necessary to assist with daily office operations. When not driving, this individual will help cover the Terminal Manager's responsibilities, assist with dispatching loads, review driver routes, respond to emails, and complete other duties as assigned by management.

We are looking for someone who can take initiative, work independently, communicate professionally, and transition smoothly between driving and office responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Commercial Driving Responsibilities

• Safely operate company commercial vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies while following all traffic laws.
• Perform all required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report vehicle defects or maintenance concerns.
• Maintain accurate and compliant driver logs, hours-of-service records, and other required documentation.
• Follow assigned routes, delivery schedules, customer instructions, and dispatch directions.
• Ensure freight is handled, secured, transported, and delivered safely and on time.
• Maintain communication with dispatch regarding delays, route changes, delivery issues, and other operational concerns.
• Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous customer service.
• Comply with all company safety policies, including seat belt use, distracted-driving restrictions, no mobile usage, and safe vehicle operation.
• Comfortable with both city and highway driving in mountainous regions.

Office & Operations Support

• Fill in for the Terminal Manager during absences, meetings, time off, or other periods when coverage is needed.
• Monitor and respond to company emails, phone calls, and operational communications.
• Assist with dispatching loads and coordinating assignments with drivers.
• Review driver routes, schedules, delivery requirements, and routing efficiency.
• Monitor driver progress and communicate schedule changes or potential service issues.
• Assist with coordinating pickups, deliveries, customer requirements, and load updates.
• Help ensure drivers have the information and instructions needed to complete their assignments.
• Assist with tracking loads, updating transportation records, and maintaining accurate documentation.
• Communicate with drivers, customers, dispatch personnel, and management to resolve routine operational issues.
• Perform additional administrative, dispatch, and transportation-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicles operated.
• Clean and acceptable driving record, subject to company requirements.
• Ability to meet applicable DOT/FMCSA qualification and medical certification requirements.
• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience required; transportation or dispatch experience preferred.
• Basic computer proficiency, including email, internet applications, and data entry.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to review routes, follow schedules, prioritize tasks, and manage changing demands.
• Ability to work independently while following company procedures and management direction.
• Professional attitude, dependable attendance, and a strong commitment to safety.
• Ability to transition between driving duties and office responsibilities as operational needs change.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous truck dispatching or transportation coordination experience.
• Familiarity with DOT regulations, hours-of-service requirements, and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
• Experience with transportation management systems, GPS tracking, or fleet telematics.
• Previous experience assisting a transportation manager, dispatcher, or fleet supervisor.

Work Environment & Expectations

This position requires flexibility to work both on the road and in an office setting. The employee must be willing to perform whichever function is needed based on daily business demands.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain the same level of professionalism, accountability, safety, and attention to detail whether driving a commercial vehicle or supporting office operations.

This is a hands-on, dual-responsibility position. The employee must be willing to drive when assigned and provide office and dispatch coverage when needed. Office responsibilities may include handling routine operational decisions within established company procedures and referring matters requiring management approval to the appropriate personnel.

Pay will start at $18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on experience
