OKSI is seeking a detail-oriented Production Technician to support the assembly, inspection, and testing of electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) seeker hardware. This position combines electrical, optical, and mechanical assembly in a precision manufacturing environment.

You will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality personnel to build reliable hardware, maintain accurate production records, and support the transition from initial builds to repeatable production. Successful candidates take pride in workmanship, follow controlled procedures, and communicate problems promptly.

Responsibilities

• Assemble electrical, optical, and mechanical components into subassemblies and completed hardware using approved drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
• Install circuit boards, connectors, cable harnesses, and related electronic components; perform soldering, crimping, and cable preparation as qualified.
• Handle, clean, inspect, and install sensitive optical components and camera assemblies using approved contamination-control practices.
• Assemble precision mechanical housings, mounts, brackets, and associated hardware using appropriate hand tools and calibrated equipment.
• Perform documented in-process inspections and production tests, recording results accurately and identifying discrepancies.
• Use equipment such as digital multimeters, bench power supplies, microscopes, calipers, and torque tools.
• Maintain complete build travelers, serial-number and lot traceability, inspection records, and test documentation.
• Identify workmanship defects, damaged components, missing parts, and documentation issues; coordinate resolution with engineering and quality.
• Perform authorized rework and support troubleshooting within established procedures.
• Maintain electrostatic discharge protection, foreign object debris prevention, tool control, and organized workstations.
• Support parts kitting, inventory accuracy, hardware labeling, and protective packaging.
• Recommend practical improvements to assembly instructions, fixtures, workstation organization, and production flow.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of relevant experience in precision assembly, electronics manufacturing, optical assembly, aerospace manufacturing, or comparable technical work.
• Ability to interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and written work instructions.
• Hands-on proficiency with small components, precision hand tools, and basic inspection equipment.
• Experience in electrical or precision mechanical assembly, with the ability to develop proficiency across electrical, optical, and mechanical work.
• Familiarity with ESD protection and careful handling of sensitive components.
• Ability to document work clearly, recognize discrepancies, and follow revision-controlled procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, dependable attendance, and effective communication.
• Ability to work full-time on-site at OKSI’s Torrance facility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience assembling EO/IR hardware, cameras, optical instruments, or other precision sensing equipment.
• Experience handling coated optics and working in clean or contamination-controlled environments.
• Soldering and cable/harness assembly experience; relevant IPC training or certifications.
• Experience with microscope-assisted assembly, adhesive application, and controlled curing processes.
• Familiarity with aerospace quality systems, including AS9100 or ISO 9001 environments.
• Experience with electronic production records, inventory systems, or ERP software.
• Technical school, associate degree, apprenticeship, or relevant military technical training.

Position Level

Technician II: Independently completes established assembly tasks and routine inspections and tests, escalating unfamiliar problems appropriately. Technician Level II requires 2-4 years of experience.

Technician III: Performs more complex builds with limited supervision, helps troubleshoot production discrepancies, supports initial builds and work-instruction improvements, and mentors less-experienced technicians. Technician Level III requires 4-7 years of experience.

Work Environment

This position involves detailed bench work, handling small components, and using manufacturing and inspection equipment. Employees must follow applicable safety procedures and use required protective equipment. Essential functions may be performed with reasonable accommodation.
