Product Design Engineer

Summary Reporting to the Product Design Engineer Senior, the Product Design Engineer designs new products and/or develops product improvements based on Sales/Marketing functional specifications by applying engineering principles and Finite Element Analysis. The incumbent must be able to do machine design analysis for force, stress, and deflection of product components and understand the design of machine components such as rolling element bearings, bushings, cams, helical worm gear drives, and bolted joints/connections. Education Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience Minimum of 3 years of related work experience. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Proficiency in SolidWorks 3‑D design software or equivalent and experience performing Finite Element Analysis Able to apply engineering principles to develop component and simple system designs to meet specifications Able to develop an accurate project plan Effective written and verbal communication Duties And Responsibilities Work with cross functional teams to develop new products and conduct design reviews Product engineering activities: troubleshooting performance issues, root cause analysis, and product design enhancements Project planning and implementation using MS Project or similar tools Use SolidWorks 3‑D software to build solid models and create cross-sectional layouts. Able to perform tolerance stack‑up analysis, and apply GD&T Develop product test plans, identify instrumentation and measurements required, and perform testing to validate new product designs Must understand fundamental manufacturing processes for wrought and cast, gray and ductile iron, steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, and plastics Perform analysis of design and performance data resulting from R&D testing Provide technical assistance to customers, suppliers, and internal groups: Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Field Service, Purchasing, and Quality Control Assure integrity of issued drawings, Bills of Material, and applicable engineering specifications such as ASTM, AISI, ANSI B31.1, API-675, and ANSI/HI 6.6 Obtain approvals as required with respect to certifying and regulatory agencies (UL, CSA, CE, NSF, ATEX) Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Applies critical reasoning to making decisions Perform other duties as assigned Travel Limited travel required. Physical Requirements The work is predominantly sedentary and requires minimal or negligible physical exertion. The employee is normally seated; however, the nature of the work allows for periods of standing or walking at will. Strength to lift or carry up to twenty‑five (25) pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screen, and ability to hear and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Work Environment Works majority of the day in a climate‑controlled environment, except for occasionally performing work on the manufacturing floor, which is subject to moderate changes in temperature. The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate changes in temperature, and the employee will be exposed to typical hazards of noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards requiring the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Work Arrangement Onsite Pay Range $94,000.00 - $110,000.00 annually Bonus Eligible This position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
