R&D Welder - FabricatorUnder the guidance of the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for engineering and R&D projects. Applying engineering principles and practices during development of new products, improving products, equipment, processes and methods of production for the organization. This role will support projects that fulfill customer and company strategic goals, integrating the needs of our customers, and marketing, sales, and manufacturing departments.Support/assist engineering with research of new and existing product design, achieving company strategic goalsSupport/assist engineering with research/experiment/analysis different material, manufacturing processes, design tolerances and other applicable development processesCoordinate testing procedures and draft specifications for manufacturingProvide technical assistance for process related problems: Identify and analyze production problems and implement solutions in a timely mannerPerforms setup, monitoring and maintenance of the manufacturing processSupport/assist engineering to continually refine upgrades and modify the manufacturing process to promote SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost)Reviews Engineering drawings and specifications, makes recommendations for changesSupport/assist engineering planning manufacturing process from initial startup for space utilization, process optimization and workforce efficiencySupport/assist with incorporating new processes into manufacturingA general understanding of machine and tool design, designs various tooling to support manufacturing/inspection requirementsSetup and operate all fabricating and machine shop equipment such as robotic welding equipment, brake press, lathe, iron worker, saw, etc. Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Observes equipment to detect defects or machine malfunction.Examines weld for bead size and other specifications and performs a variety of quality control inspections on products, materials, components, and parts at various stages to ensure compliance with quality and reliability standards.Uses inspection devices as necessary to inspect parts and verify that the part is to print as required.Documents machine operations and preventative maintenance programsProvides line support and in-process failure analysisThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, physical demands and/or ability required for this position to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of 5 years of experience welding (MIG/ARC/GAS) in a manufacturing industry or equivalentPrevious experience in fixturing parts and assemblies to prevent warpage or other unwanted resultsAbility to set up and operate all Fab/Machine shop equipment (medium to large hydraulic/brake press, robotic welders, vertical mill (Bridgeport), grinder, iron worker, vertical/horizontal band saw, horizontal lathe)Attention to detailMust be able to work within a team environment and work independently when necessaryAbility to weld and/or use cutting torch in all positionsAbility to regulate welder to specific wire feed speeds and voltageAbility to perform fit up, weld, and assemble using fixtures, surface plates and hand tools, tape measure, etc.Ability to fixture components and welds to print specifications, sketches, or conceptsAbility to design and build prototypes with very little detail and supervisionPreferred – Experience in building prototypes and fixturesPreferred – Previous programming experience in Fanuc and/or Lincoln robotic welderPreferred – Proficient in TIG weldingPreferred – Basic electrical knowledge and troubleshootingPreferred– Familiarity with hydraulics (pressure, cylinders, liners, and valuing)Preferred: Working knowledge of technical terminology in the aerial work platform and/or hydraulic lift industryPreferred: Experience in SolidWorksGood interpersonal/social skillsAbility to use logic to solve problems with effective solutionsAble to maintain confidential informationAbility to lift, position, move, bend, flip parts in order to accomplish production goals that require loading, adjusting, turning, and removing small and large parts up to 50lbsStands, bends, stretches, reaches, lifts repetitively to accomplish welding and other company-wide production goalsAbility to occasionally lift greater than 75lbs with assistanceAbility to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, reach, lift, sit, in hot, cold, dusty, elevated, noisy area where foot and automated equipment movement, airborne, dust/fumes, and ultraviolet light are presentAbility to operate a forkliftExposure to moving mechanical partsThis position usually works regular business hours but may be required to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlinesWorks in an office and factories, may have to travel between sites locally.
