Physical Therapist - Acute Care

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist to provide evaluation and treatment for patients with functional deficits due to illness, injury, musculoskeletal dysfunction, or birth defects. This role involves working with a diverse patient population ranging from birth to geriatrics in both inpatient and post-acute care settings. The Physical Therapist will develop and implement effective treatment programs while supervising Physical Therapist Assistants and support staff, engaging in patient education, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Assess patients to determine their needs, strengths, and rehabilitation potential, including conducting periodic reassessments.
• Plan individualized treatment programs based on assessment results, physician orders, and clinical judgment.
• Document all necessary information in the patient's medical record accurately and in a timely manner.
• Delegate treatment tasks to appropriate staff (PTAs, students, technicians) and monitor the application and results of treatment.
• Coordinate services and treatment plans with patients, families, and other healthcare disciplines.
• Serve as a Clinical Instructor or mentor for Physical Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistant students when requested.
• Educate patients and families regarding disease or injury, treatment plans, self-help measures, and preventive care strategies.
• Utilize appropriate treatment modalities and techniques tailored to patients' age, diagnosis, and physical condition.
• Provide educational support to other departments and the public through in-services, lectures, or classes.
• Ensure a safe treatment environment by demonstrating safe equipment use and monitoring patient safety.
• Exhibit knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating growth and development principles.
• Support the organization's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures in all aspects of work.

Departmental and Additional Job Responsibilities

• Assist with departmental needs such as cleaning or answering telephones as necessary.
• Support other staff with treatments when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Physical Abilities/Motor Skills

• Ability to frequently stand, kneel, and crouch; may require daily movement about the facility, sitting, climbing stairs, and bending.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs; may require pushing, pulling, or carrying items weighing between 20-100 lbs.
• Requires visual capabilities for reading and interpreting information; clarity of vision must be adequate for various distances.
• Regularly perform functions requiring hand and finger movement, as well as using tools and equipment effectively.
• Able to communicate effectively through speaking and listening.

Essential Technical Abilities

• Proficiency with modern office, computer, and telephone equipment typically used in a healthcare setting.

Essential Mental Abilities

• Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast-paced or stressful situations.
• Proficient in interpreting various documents including policies and regulations.
• Capable of interpreting assessment results and evaluating patient responses to treatment.
• Possesses sufficient clinical knowledge of physical therapy principles to work autonomously and supervise assistants.
