Clean Harbors is looking for a Payroll Analyst . The role supports, assists, and guides in the processing of all payrolls to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant outcomes, including ongoing payrolls and year‑end activities. The analyst prepares reports and dashboards to support business needs, maintains the payroll system setup, provides technical support for troubleshooting system issues, and monitors adherence to union agreements, legislation, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities Monitor and support day‑to‑day payroll production deliverables and deadlines to ensure timely transmission to the payroll vendor. Assist Payroll and Human Resources staff with vendor interfaces and support internal system interfaces. Analyze and audit data entry, imports, and perform pay‑period reconciliations and periodic audits; report discrepancies to payroll leaders with necessary research for resolution. Evaluate and recommend best‑practice solutions. Review and sign off on manual checks, retro‑active payment calculations, and overpayment calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal controls. Generate standard, custom, and ad hoc monthly/quarterly/annual reports and analytics for field/operations, HR, Accounting, and external stakeholders. Create and maintain payroll reports according to system codes and requirements with accuracy and timeliness. Serve as a payroll subject‑matter expert, staying abreast of legislation, policy, and best practices; recommend control improvements. Communicate data findings, analysis, and project status to management. Facilitate accurate administration of union payments for pension, dues, and health and welfare benefits, ensuring regulatory and contractual compliance. Ensure data integrity and accuracy of employee and business information across all payroll systems through periodic reviews and audits. Collaborate on PTO tracking and synchronization between payroll and time‑keeping systems. Prepare and process year‑end and year‑to‑date updates for tax forms and reporting, including taxable benefits, stock options, pay corrections, and statutory overages/shortfalls. Investigate and report on payroll GL account reconciling items and implement measures to eliminate future discrepancies. Maintain and update payroll system setup, including new earning codes and calendar‑year changes, testing, updating master lists, and communicating to stakeholders. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. At least five years of experience in a similar role. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality. Effective communicator able to translate complex concepts into clear information for vendors, employees, partners, and management. Ability to work under time constraints and deliver results on critical deadlines. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercising initiative and good judgment. Flexibility regarding changing priorities, values, and openness to diverse stakeholder perspectives. Knowledge of HRIS, payroll systems, and time‑keeping solutions.
