SUMMARY

Prepare, cook, and serve food for students and employees of the school corporation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work with the Food Service Manager to prepare and serve nutritious and appetizing meals that are suitable for children and meet state and federal regulations. Practice food and sanitization standards that meet or exceed USDA requirements. Maintain the highest standards of safety through the proper preparation of food and the proper use of equipment. Report immediately to the Food Service Manager any problem or accident occurring in the kitchen or lunchroom. Report to the Food Service Manager the receipt of any faulty or inferior-quality food. Perform such other tasks related to food service as may from time to time be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to administrators, staff, and students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to meet the needs of this job including fractions and adjusting measurements to alter recipes.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Ability to operate equipment involved in food preparation and cleanup of the school building’s kitchen and lunchroom. Ability to work amicably with peers and present a positive attitude in the presence of students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; talk; hear; taste or smell; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and constantly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to extreme heat and temperature sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort.
