Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Position Summary: This Bureau Chief Assistant Attorney General position is in the Tallahassee Consumer Protection Bureau and manages the bureau in coordination with other staff supervisors, under the direction of the Division Director. The Bureau Chief has their own case load and directly supervises the attorneys and paralegals, as well as overseeing the investigative and support staff. This position represents the Office of the Attorney General, Department of Legal Affairs, in trial and appellate courts and administrative tribunals in proceedings relating to Chapters 501, 542, 812, 817, 895, and 932 of the Florida Statutes, the Florida Administrative Code, and other state and federal laws enforced or relevant to cases filed by the Office of the Attorney General.
Pay:$135,022.68 Annually
Qualifications: Admission to The Florida Bar and ten (10) years of professional experience in the practice of law, including three (3) or more years of civil litigation practice.
Preference will be given to attorneys with:
5 or more years of experience in the prosecution or defense of cases involving F.S. 501.
5 or more years of experience with civil litigation.
5 or more years of supervisory or management experience.

The Work You Will Do: The responsibilities of this position are included, but are not limited to the following:
Oversee Tallahassee office management in coordination with other staff supervisors, under the direction of the Director including, but not limited to, enforcing agency and division policies and procedures; supervising personnel, involving hiring, disciplining, employee relations, making recommendations for retention and classification and pay changes, attendance and leave approvals, performance reviews, and workload distribution.
Provide Bureau Chief coverage for the Jacksonville office as needed.
Assist with management and provide necessary guidance for the Senior Protection Team, and any special initiatives in the North Florida region or other initiatives at the request of the Director.
Case development and recommending new case initiatives.
Participate in and supervise investigations of potential violations of state and federal consumer protection and trade practices law; review reports prepared by law enforcement officers, investigators, accountants and financial analysts; gather and evaluate evidence; and prepare cases for appropriate legal proceedings.
Conduct litigation of both complex and non-complex consumer protection cases in state and federal courts, including preparing pleadings, motions, memoranda of law and briefs; prepare legal research and evaluate the research of staff attorneys and investigators; prepare subpoenas, conduct discovery and other pretrial proceedings. Attend trials, hearings, and appellate oral arguments.
Negotiate and draft settlements and assurances of voluntary compliance; prepare and review cease and desist notices and other correspondence and papers.
Assist and advise attorneys in trial, pleading, practice, and procedure.
Participate with other states through the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) by representing the State of Florida in multistate investigations and litigation.
Assist in preparing legislation proposed by the Department.
Respond to correspondence and telephone inquiries concerning consumer protection issues.
Represent the Department in meetings and conferences relating to consumer protection investigation and litigation.
Establish lines of communication with local, state and federal law enforcement officers and prosecutors; serve on federal and state task forces and work with those agencies; initiate contact with and process information from law enforcement agencies in order to locate appropriate enforcement cases.
Maintain current expertise in areas of practice, including reading recent judicial decisions and case summaries and attending continuing legal education and other professional seminars.
Perform routine administrative functions, including, as assigned, approvals of travel vouchers, expense reimbursements, purchasing, time records, and work schedules.
Prepare recommendations for budgetary item requests for the annual budget process, approval for staffing changes, and resolution of administrative issues in the Bureau.
Perform, in a timely fashion, other assigned duties, which may require extended hours and/or travel outside the worksite.
