Registered Respiratory Therapist

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing pulmonary care to critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician with minimal supervision. This role includes performing patient assessments and instituting respiratory care plans, along with executing various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures in all areas of the hospital.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency situations (Code Blue and White).
• Manage airways, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning.
• Deliver aerosolized medications.
• Manage ventilators, including setup and operation.
• Conduct oral hygiene for patients.
• Place and maintain airway retaining devices.
• Manage airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP.
• Provide oxygen delivery and therapeutic monitoring.
• Analyze chest films and collect blood gases.
• Perform EKG analysis and ensure accurate documentation.
• Maintain and stock respiratory equipment and supplies.
• Participate in CAP and JC surveys.
• Function as Shift Leader or Team Leader as needed.
• May perform advanced practice skills including therapeutic gas management, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy assistance, hemodynamic monitoring, waveform analysis, and nocturnal SpO2 evaluation.
• Conduct transport duties for patients requiring respiratory care.

Education and Skills

• Must hold an RT or RCP license in the state of employment.
• BLS and ACLS certifications are required (via AHA).
• Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certified by the NBRC.

Experience

• 1 to 3 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with night shifts. The schedule includes floating between multiple locations within the region.

Patient Care

The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1, with a maximum of 5 ventilators assigned to one therapist.

Dress Code

Gray scrubs are required as part of the dress code.
