Here’s What You’ll Do Direct Support Professionals assist adults with developmental disabilities in their daily lives, including care of dietary, hygiene, grooming, and dressing needs, and redirect behaviors with various activities as needed. Performance Expectations and Responsibilities Provide support to program participants that meets their needs and offers opportunities for community integration. Create a nurturing, safe, and healthful living environment. Be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration. Deliver each participant with an array of instruction and support services as described in the Participant’s Individual Instruction and Support Plan (IISP). Ensure that daily needs of participants are met, including personal hygiene, food preparation, house cleaning, shopping, and monitoring of health needs, including supervision of medication. Assist participants with accessing the community for a variety of outings of their choosing, including transportation where required. Ensure participants are treated with dignity and consideration while promoting and safeguarding their ability to make decisions and freely exercise their rights. Interact with participants, provide informal counseling, and problem‑solve with participants. Attend staff meetings as required by the House Manager or the Site Supervisor and/or Administrator. Attend training required by the agency, DDA, and other parties. Participate in the development and implementation of the IISP for each participant with whom they work. Become a Nurse Assistant Registered (NAR) at the employee’s own expense initially and annually. Enroll and complete the Nurse Delegation study course and take the test within 30 days of employment. Maintain professional working relationships with other service providers, participants’ parents/relatives/guardians, and agency staff. Complete all documentation promptly, including medication logs, shift notes, progress notes, data sheets, incident reports, and client financial records. Perform other duties as assigned by the House Manager or the Site Supervisor and/or the Administrator. Possess a valid driver’s license; employees must be willing to transport clients in their own vehicle. Experience Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Minimum Experience: Personal experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities with challenging behaviors is strongly preferred. Minimum Driving Experience: Must have a valid in‑state driver’s license and be able to provide current car insurance.
