Nursing Professional Development Practitioner (NPD) - Med Education and Development

The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute‑care community teaching hospital providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. Staffed by a talented team of leading professionals, the hospital cares for patients from birth to end of life. The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner/Nurse Educator is a Registered Nurse (RN) with NPD practice judgment and expertise who influences professional role competence and growth of learners. The practitioner supports learners within the framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice approved by the American Nurses Association. Working with nursing leadership, the practitioner fosters competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice, and onboarding/orientation of new Hartford HealthCare colleagues. As an essential member of the nursing leadership team, the practitioner promotes alignment of regional NPD and practice excellence with the HHC system as a whole. Responsibilities Support learners within the NPD framework, collaborate with nursing leadership on competency management, clinical education, professional role development, and policy standardization, and facilitate onboarding for new colleagues. Qualifications Education BSN required. Enrolled in a Master’s program with degree completion within two years of hire date. Experience Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience. At least 1 year of experience in an acute care environment. One year of relevant teaching experience preferred; nursing professional development and/or specialty area experience preferred. Medical‑Surgical and Stroke background preferred. Experience as a preceptor. Licensure, Certification, Registration Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date. NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire. BLS required. Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements Ability to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs. Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies. Demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to education for continuous quality improvement. Knowledge of adult learning principles and theories. Knowledge of unit‑based orientation plans. Strong skills in educational needs assessment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
