Must-Have:
Nurses must be able to monitor telemetry strips.
Charge nurse on each shift with a patient load depending on staffing and census.
Float to MedSurg and occasionally ICU for general overflow patients.


Description:
This unit has 28 single rooms with the potential to double to 36.
The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5 at night.
Common diagnoses include CHF, diabetes, end of life, heart failure, and medical patients, some requiring telemetry.
Registered Nurses are not required to titrate drips as there are no titratable drips.
Respiratory therapists manage BiPAP and CPAP needs, while nurses monitor the tele monitors.
The unit is staffed with nurse aids/patient care techs, with a typical ratio of 1:10 based on staffing and census.
There is no call or standby requirement.
Registered Nurses must work every other weekend and holiday.
Unit/department-specific orientation typically lasts for two shifts.
The charting system used on the unit is EPIC.
