Certified Clinical Medical Assistant – Primary Care Office Stephens County Hospital is a 96-bed acute care hospital located in Toccoa, Georgia. It offers a professional and compassionate care environment for patients and staff. The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant – Full Time – Primary Care Office Education / Experience High School Graduate or equivalent. Minimum one year experience in an office setting with Certified Medical Assistant Certification. Age categories of patients served Child (5–9 years) Adolescent (10–18 years) Adult (19–69 years) Geriatric (70+ years) Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates competency in clinical skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice and training of a Medical Assistant. Prepares, cleans and maintains exam and treatment rooms. Conducts pre‑visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records prior to appointment with recent test results and correspondence. Prepares patients for examination and treatment, takes histories, includes medication reconciliation and vital signs as appropriate. Draws blood for lab work per physician orders. Implements physician orders promptly and appropriately. Monitors patient’s condition and maintains documentation. Reports abnormalities or instability to physician. Assists with procedures and gives injections under physician/supervisor guidance. Maintains security and safety of medications, needles, syringes, equipment and supplies. Changes dressings, performs ordered treatments, prepares and maintains clinical supplies. Ensures readiness of chart for scheduled surgeries. Participates in verification (time‑out) prior to invasive procedures as per policy. Assesses pain, documents accordingly. Initiates use of AED and contacts 911 as required. Creates, maintains and documents patient charts, records and other information. Repeats and verifies all verbal/phone orders and test results. Provides patient education and interprets physician instructions. Communicates effectively with patients, families, co‑workers and other professionals. Maintains strict confidentiality and complies with universal precautions. Reports staff deficits related to infection control practices. Assists with scheduling tests and treatments, processes referrals, coordinates care with social services. Contributes to policy development, compiles data for reports. Handles phone calls with pharmacists and other health professionals. Schedules and arranges consults, outside tests, calls patients regarding results. Age‑specific Competencies Child (5–9 years) Assess and interpret data relative to patient’s age. Involve parents in planning of care. Evaluate and document signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Administer medications based on weight, age, sensitivity. Recognize children’s need for some control, preserve privacy, and provide simple explanations. Adolescent (10–18 years) Assess and interpret data relative to patient’s age. Evaluate and document signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Involve patient in decision making and planning of care. Maintain privacy and use proper medical terminology. Allow adolescent to maintain control, anticipate resistance. Adult (19–69 years) Assess and interpret data relative to patient’s age. Evaluate and document signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Prepare and administer medication based on weight, age and sensitivity. Involve patient in planning and education, acknowledge anxiety about lifestyle changes. Explain procedures with correct terminology and respect patient’s right to refuse treatment. Geriatric (70+ years) Evaluate and document signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect. Assess and interpret data relative to age. Administer medication based on weight, age and sensitivity. Assure privacy and explain procedures, respect right to refuse treatment. Adapt interactions to patient’s psychosocial development. Professional Requirements Adhere to dress code, appearance neat and clean. Complete annual education requirements. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Wear identification while on duty. Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations. Represent the organization positively and professionally. Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices. Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. Attend regular staff meetings and in‑services as needed. Non‑Essential Functions Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to determine appropriate course of action in complex situations. Capable of working independently, exercising creativity and maintaining a positive attitude. Manage multiple tasks, prioritize scheduling of work. Maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information. Complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Communicate effectively, with excellent verbal and written skills. Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions Sitting for extended periods (up to 4 hour intervals). Walk, bend, stoop and reach/lift above head without assistive devices. Read documentation in various formats. Hear adequately to communicate with others and use communication devices; hear alarms, call bells. Maintain mental and emotional stability; use courteous and calm approach. Lift 10 pounds or more. Near normal hearing, vision with corrected or non‑corrected; ability to distinguish colors. Good manual dexterity, eye‑hand‑foot coordination. Stand continuously during shift (67‑100%). Walk continuously during shift (67‑100%). Climb occasionally during shift (1‑33%). Bend/stoop frequently during shift (34‑66%). Twist at waist occasionally with shift (1‑33%). Pushing/pulling frequently during shift (34‑66%). Lift/carry 20 lbs with assistance occasionally (1‑33%). Reach above shoulders frequently (34‑67%).
