Staff Accountant - Tax Focus (On-Site)

STAFF TAX ACCOUNTANT - In Office

Our client is a well-established and growing organization with an immediate opening for a focused Staff Tax Accountant at its new Plymouth, MN office. Reporting directly to the Controller, you'll become the go-to person for sales/use and property compliance while also supporting month-end close and core accounting activities. If you're coming from public accounting / public and want to move in-house, this role is a strong match.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

focus (approx. 60-70%)

• Prepare and file Sales & Use and Property/PPT returns accurately and on time
• Maintain and manage tracking spreadsheets and due-date calendars
• Maintain customer exemption certificates and support compliance documentation
• Partner with internal stakeholders to solve -related issues and keep processes audit-ready

Month-end close + core accounting (approx. 25%)

• Prepare journal entries, assist with month-end close, and maintain general ledger accounts
• Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations
• Support expense reporting
• Review account activity for accuracy and resolve discrepancies

Process improvement

• Identify gaps, propose solutions, and create repeatable processes that make the work faster, cleaner, and more accurate
• Jump in on special projects and other duties as assigned

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR / QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or Business with equivalent accounting experience)
• 3+ years of accounting experience; public accounting / experience is welcome
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Experience with accounting software Microsoft Business Central is desired
• Experience with sales software Avalara is desired, Concur, One Source
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite with Advanced Excel Skills necessary and Jet reporting skills desired
• You're analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable solving problems without needing perfect instructions
• Strong communication skills and a "jump in and help" mindset
