Web DeveloperThe Information Technology Department at the Wisconsin Historical Society manages the technology and computer infrastructure that drives the Agency’s business systems and automation requirements. The IT department maintains and implements systems and web applications that support the business needs and mission of the Wisconsin Historical Society.Under the limited supervision of the Information Technology Director as a member of the cross-functional Digital team, the Web Developer is responsible for maintaining and enhancing applications developed in house, customizing commercial off-the-shelf solutions, and refining related processes and procedures used across the agency.WHS has an immediate need to migrate web applications from one data center to another, this role will aid in that work. This position will play a crucial role in maintaining, enhancing, and optimizing our web applications. The primary focus will be on front-end development, ensuring that our websites are user-friendly, visually appealing, and responsive on multiple devices. The Web Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality user experiences across a range of technologies.Responsibilities:Front-End Development: Create and maintain visually appealing, responsive, and user-friendly web interfaces for C# and.NET applications, WordPress websites, and PHP-based solutions.User Experience (UX) Design: Collaborate with UX/UI designers to implement design mockups and wireframes, ensuring an optimal user experience.Cross-Browser Compatibility: Ensure seamless functionality and appearance across different web browsers.Mobile Responsiveness: Develop mobile-friendly web solutions, optimizing user experience on smartphones and tablets.Performance Optimization: Implement best practices for website performance, including page load times and overall speed.Website Maintenance: Regularly update and maintain web applications, resolving any front-end issues, and ensuring security and compatibility with backend changes.Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing and debugging to identify and fix any front-end issues.Collaboration: Work closely with back-end developers, content creators, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent, cohesive, and effective web solutions.Website and application design and development, unit testing, design and code reviewsCoordinate work of team members to write, test, and modify Society applicationsImplement best practices and operational standards in support of core organizational functionsConfer with Chief Information Officer, Digital Team leads, Project Management Office (PMO), and other representatives of departments to prioritize developmentDevelopment of technical documentation and subsequent revisionsDevelopment of operational documentation and application training for personnelProvide regular status updates to PMO and stakeholders on DevelopmentA focus on continued process and code improvement both within the IT team as well as throughout the agency is required. This position is expected to participate on cross-functional teams in needs assessment, gathering business requirements, design, testing, implementation and post-production support and evaluation.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong expertise in front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design.Proficiency in C# and .NET.Experience with WordPress and PHP.Knowledge of web development best practices and SEO principles.Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
