JOB DESCRIPTIONPurposeThis is a professional sales position responsible for closing intercompany penetration opportunities and growing new business within category, with the expectation of achieving assigned business goals while enhancing the customer experience. This will be accomplished through collaborating with cross sectional team players to increase product knowledge education and capturing and maintaining key business opportunities. Specialists will prioritize time, targets, and team selling efforts based on market insights and data analytics to sell the protein category to direct or indirect customers.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute targeted category sales strategies to achieve company and individual annual business goals, delivering profitable sales growth and penetration for the Specialty protein category.Provide customer solutions from within our defined category assortment with the emphasis on prioritizing Sysco Specialty brand along with relevant specialty company offeringsUtilize data analytics to prioritize category opportunitiesActively seek, qualify, and action top penetration opportunitiesBe informed of market and industry conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services providedTrack activities and results collaborate on opportunities, and champion the team selling process by working with key stakeholders within the assigned region.Presents and designs educational content for internal and external food shows, workshops, virtual and in-person, acting as a subject matter expert and ambassador for Specialty products and solutionsLeverage sampling in a solutions-oriented manner to close salesProvide feedback to the Sales team, Operations, Merchandising and Management on product quality, product integrity, product mix, customer satisfaction, perceived value and competitionDevelop and maintain value-based relationships with customers, chefs and intercompany stakeholdersSupport execution of prioritized sales strategies through direct selling and engagement of customers and prospectsFollow-up on all communications and commitments resulting from customer meetingsResponsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.Perform other duties as assigned. Skills3+ years’ experience in a Sales or Marketing role such as Inside and/or Outside Sales, or relevant industry experience in either the foodservice or distribution industryCulinary experience or training is an assetFrench language an assetCompletion of post-secondary education or equivalent experienceCPSA designation is preferredSolid analytical problem-solving skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports and deriving insights from dataAbility to express information in terms of profit and loss, food cost and expense ratio Flexible; readily accepts change; open to new ideas Strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with internal and external teams Demonstrated ability to deliver against deadlines and produce high-quality results (accuracy, thoroughness in the deliverables they are producing)Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives at the same timeDemonstrate a high level of business acumen and interpersonal savvyDemonstrated experience with building trust with a prospective customer and securing new businessDemonstrated skills in the area of consultative selling, networking and negotiationsProactive, self-directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule to be successfulUnderstanding of marketing principles, product lines, ordering procedures and Sysco’s credit termsIntermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OutlookValid driver’s license with access to a vehicle may be required (some ad-hoc travel)EducationBachelor's degree in related discipline or an additional 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degreeExperience5+ years of experiencePhysical DemandsStandard office environment physical requirements.Travel Requirements0-25%Sysco is committed to Employment Equity.
