Senior Microgrid Automation Engineer

Salary: $107,900 - 195,050 per year Requirements:

• We require a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and four to eight-plus years of relevant microgrid experience.
• We need strong knowledge of microgrids and renewable energy technologies.
• We require experience with protection and control of power systems.
• We need the ability to quickly learn a range of client software tools and databases.
• We expect proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
• We need someone who is comfortable working in both field and office environments.
• We require the ability to support occasional field work in rough terrain to reach remote project locations.
• We require a valid U.S. drivers license and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
• A Fundamentals of Engineering certification is preferred.
• A masters degree in a related field is preferred.

• We design and lead microgrid and renewable energy projects while collaborating with other electric utility disciplines.
• We use our knowledge of microgrid control systems and automation technologies such as SCADA, EMS, IEDs, HMIs, and RTUs.
• We apply microgrid operating concepts including islanding, grid-connected operation, energy management, control strategies, and power flow management.
• We participate in Functional Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
• We perform Hardware in the Loop testing.
• We work with renewable energy technologies including solar PV, wind, batteries, and other distributed energy resources.
• We apply power electronics expertise to inverters, converters, and related devices used to interface and control DERs.
• We provide planning and engineering support for telecommunication systems and projects.
• We establish project schedules and budgets.
• We develop drawings and specifications for utility telecommunication system projects.
• We coordinate with internal engineering teams, external contractors, and utility construction crews.
• We travel to project sites to document existing conditions.
• We use CAD tools, simulation software, and programming languages commonly applied in microgrid control systems.
• We work with communication protocols such as DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus.
• We apply protection and control design knowledge, including one-lines, three-lines, schematics, and wiring.
• We use system modeling tools such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM.
• We may use DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61131 programming, AcSELerator RTAC, SEL 5030 Quickset, GE Cimplicity, and protocol testing software.
